One point I've made here for 20 years and counting-everybody needs to stop using their language. They are not "public" schools. They are GOVERNMENT schools. Start saying private school and government school. Public gives these schools a patina of respectability they do not deserve.

Say it with me-pull your kids out of the government schools. The government schools are failing. Lunch sucks at the government schools. My nephew Bosworth decided he was a girl at the government schools. And so forth.

According to whom?

I haven't read that guy's theories on the subject because I specifically refuse to get pulled into his bad faith orbit (and I wish others would do the same), but I have seen enough of his claims in the past to understand that his usual MO is to make claims based on fringe "scholarship" that is obviously biased and has an axe to grind with Christianity to know that this is likely more of the same.

Like people who claim that the Genesis creation account is a re-telling of the Enuma Elish when it very clearly was a polemic designed to differentiate Hebrew thought from the polytheistic thought that prevailed around them.
Anybody who claims that Genesis copied Enuma Elish is being willfully biased.

It’s Christian values. I can tell you went to public schools because that’s where they started pushing this bs. We’re a Christian founded nation. Not Jewish

PS. I agree with everything else you said

According to most scholars, as well as historical, linguistic, and archaeological evidence. Despite what the Old Testament will tell you about the Israelites traveling into the land of Canaan where they defeated the “foreign” Canaanites, we know that they were the same peoples.

That story was written to differentiate the group that started to focus on worshipping only Yahweh. And they practiced monolatry, not monotheism, even up until the advent of Christianity.

Yeah I'm just trying to be clear here that regardless of whether worshipping moloch or ba'al is "satanic" or not, if you believe in Judaism or Christianity and you worship moloch or ba'al Yahweh (aka the God of the Bible) says you should be put to death.

Not criticized.

Not be viewed as being sinful.

They are to be put to death just as they were killed in the old testament when Moses came down from the mountain with the 10 commandments and found them worshipping the golden calf (aka ba'al) and Yahweh killed the Jews involved.

All of this raises the question with regard to why Netanyahu said Iran burned the statue of ba'al as a deliberate act to declare war on Israel.

Why would a Jew who worships Yahweh and is prohibited by penalty of death from worshipping that ba'al view burning a statue of that entity as an act of war?

Why would Iran burn an effigy of ba'al in reference to Israel which is ostensibly a Jewish state and thus worships Yahweh in the first place?

Very odd on both of their parts?

You're trying to make sense out of religious practices.

It can't be done. Religion is non-sensical.

The modern concept of the Devil isn't really in the OT.

Nonsense.

The modern concept of Satan is consistent with everything in the OT, including the passage in Isaiah that Jesus references when He said He saw Satan fall like lightening from Heaven.

There is a split among Bible scholars about whether the mention of Satan in Job is literally referring to Satan by a formal name or whether it is referring to some other being acting as a prosecutor in Divine court (which would mean that the word would be pronounced sah-tahn, meaning "adversary" or "accuser"), but even if that is true it doesn't mean that the concept wasn't there, it means that Satan came to be known as the ultimate accuser. Which is perfectly consistent with what Jesus said about him.

I personally think that Job was written as a poem meant to illustrate a broader theme anyway. The long middle section is definitely written in verse in the original Hebrew. Not that a man whom bad things happened to didn't exist, and maybe that man showed faith even in the midst of his pain, but Job has a Paul Bunyon sort of flavor to it and I don't think it was meant to be taken literally, but as a sort of extended parable.

Genesis creation story. Satan is not named, but is represented by a serpent instead. To me the most likely scenario and reason for that is that the author of Genesis used the "serpent" because it was a common symbol of negative chaos in that region of the world at the time, and I think Genesis was a polemic. The author didn't have a proper name to call the harbinger of that negative chaos at that point and he was trying to use ideas that his people were already familiar with, so he just called him the serpent.

Nothing about that account is inconsistent with the modern idea of Satan.

Unless I don't understand what you mean by the "modern idea of Satan."

This raises more questions about the OT than me being wrong about the Satan point. This implies the OT is the work of man and not God.

I'm sorry, but I'm going to need specifics.

Anybody can say what you typed above. If it's such a universal opinion, it should be hard to come up with a couple of examples.

Except that it is. Even modern Judaism doesn’t have the same concept of Satan as modern orthodox Christianity.

Modern Judaism also doesn't have the same concept of Jesus that orthodox Christianity does, even though they share the same Old Testament.

But I think we're at the point that we have to define what this "modern concept" you are referring to is. What is it?

Oh I think there's some sense to be made out of this part.

And yes, I believe that in order to understand what is actually happening globally it has to be viewed through the lens of the beliefs of the ultra powerful people who run the world and that is now clearly something related to ba'al worship that's been hidden from the non-initiated or dismissed as a conspiracy theory for the entirety of recorded history.

The evidence is now clear that there is a powerful group of unelected people running the world.
The evidence is now clear they do believe in this stuff.
The evidence is now unassailable that they are doing horrible things.

The question is what comes next.

Not at all. It implies that the author had revealed knowledge, but not complete revealed knowledge. Which is the case throughout the Bible.

The same one that you’re referring to when you said the “modern idea” of Satan a few posts back. Why are you asking for specificity now?

And you’re completely missing the point with your Jesus reference. But if the “modern concept or idea” of Satan is so clear and prominent in the OT, why don’t Jews believe in that concept or idea. I know why they don’t believe in Jesus. He’s not in the OT either (despite what you and many other Christians may believe).
