This freedom gave you Covid vaccine mandates.

This could be the end of fake news

Fun fact #1: the Smith-Mundt Modernization Act of 2012 was defeated in Congress, but was buried in the FY 2013 National Defense Authorization Act. This modified the original law from 1948 that outlawed American propaganda from being broadcast domestically. The 2012 revisions basically legalized the fake news industry to run rampant during Hussein's second term.

Fun fact #2: The FY 2013 NDAA was signed by Obama via AutoPen while he was on vacation in Hawaii.

Lol, we should just rid of laws so you will be out of a job.

I’m guessing you have problems with consumer protection. And you probably want the FTC banned.

If I falsely advertise a product and you get injured. There should be zero recourse for you.

Tell me why it's okay to censor big pharma here.

There’s hundreds of medications, and yet, we only see advertisements for a dozen or so of them. I don’t think the ones that we never see ads for are exactly being censored.

That’s a shame. I’ll miss hearing about anal leakage and other fun side effects.

A free and fair press is one of the mainstays of a truly free society. We haven’t had that for quite a while and big pharma buying the media through ads has been a major contributor.

Wait what?

Allowing private companies to contract outside of government is "fascism"?

However, how does this lineup with the constitution or capitalism or free speech?

Is paid speech the same as free speech?

They are selling a product you can't buy directly. They're asking you to go to the doctor and "ask your doctor if Plomox is right for you!"

Of course, they're not talking you about the 4 day golf junket Plomox is fronting for the doctor who hits his quota on Plomox prescriptions...

Why are tabacco companies barred from advertising

Because it encourages people to smoke and smoking is bad for your health.

In terms of tobacco, the main ingredient nicotine is not unhealthy if used properly. In fact it has health benefits with the proper dosage.

But for big pharma, I see no problem with Advil or Tylenol commercials.

But the AIDS drug commercials are pretty off putting when they show two dudes being intimate with each other like they are on the verge of mating to get the other dude pregnant. Yeah, that's fricking dumb but I guess the gays need their drug commercials too.

I'll tell you why it's ok to at least consider it, for me anyway.

My political views aren't religious, they're pragmatic. I think my views produce the best results, and the best results are actually what I want, not just to further some political principles because they're that important to me.

If there's an area where your normal political principles repeatedly produce bad results, it makes sense to me to try something different in that area.

I'm okay with this explanation. At least it makes sense.

We've had laws/lawyers since Sumer, so I don't think that's as smart as a gotcha as you think. Plus, I can do lots of other things.

Uh, yes.

The majority on this board did until recently. I've remained consistent.

There are always civil suits (the private resolution).

Is the ban going to be on ALL pharma, or just those which have to be prescribed by a doctor?

This is the exact argument of the gun grabbers that gets amplified with each mass shooting event.

They just throw in "common sense" to Astroturf it as Americana.

They are awful and I am tired if watching those woke commercials.

I am all for it, but it will be interesting to see what the courts say, and we know this will end up in court.

However, there are numerous regulations in place already on what can be aired. It appears that free speech has limitations when it comes to television.
