I don’t understand the point of “winning” if you aren’t going to push the things you fight for. Dems do it all the time (great society, Obama care, build back better, etc). It’s literally the point. We won. We ban abortion. We fight to preserve the ban. Otherwise what is the point of “winning”?

This times infinity! Why have a platform or beliefs if you are not going to follow up your core beliefs.

Not all repeblicans are for the death penalty. Regardless, don't you think an innocent unborn baby is a little different than someone being sentenced to death for capital murder?

Federalism is.

Agree...but not worth fighting at the state level.

This is a political issue. You need "political gain" to enact your preferred policy. If you lose political power, you'll lose any control on this issue/policy.

Wow, you completely missed the point.

There are plenty of people who would vote Republican for a secure border but won't consider it if that requires abortion bans.

So freaking what? They are two wholly separate issues.

I haven't discussed my feelings on abortion or when cells become a human in this thread, actually.

So what exactly is your position on that issue? It is a critical element of this debate.

You keep returning to this. There are much larger issues at play here than this law’s effect on the political matrix.

There isn't one.

Democrats have sold Republicans on this idea that if they were "more like democrats" they'd get republican AND democrat votes.

The establishment did that for decades. And they couldn't get anyone elected. What republicans won other than with Trump in the last 20 years? Virtually nothign.

This is a democracy. You need more people on your side to win elections. You need to give a shite, especially if you care about the policy.

The problem here is this nation was founded not as a democracy but as a Constitutional Republic. In a Constitutional Republic, natural rights — including the right to life — are not subject to the whims of the majority.

Meanwhile, dems have been all for "birthday abortions." Now that something to hang around their necks.

I am not pro life.because I think it is politically popular. But everyone in favor of it has already been born. How convenient.

So you say. Some say the majority of voters elected the current Resident in Chief, too…and you probably believe that also.

Could not be further from the truth. The 40s crowed that are new prefer Trump polices and they also are pro LGBTQ. They also don't give a shite.

You may very well be correct, but the completely unhinged reaction of the Left/Dems to this has certainly blunted any negative effects.

And, I'd just like to point out again in this thread that the OP is ignoring one aspect of this.

Namely, that it assumes that the level of "extreme" this appears is greater than the level of extreme what the Democrats CURRENTLY support is.

This ain't the old world where the options were, "effective ban on abortions" vs "pro-choice but with at least a few reasonable restrcitions".

TODAY, the political sides are "against abortion pretty much all the time" vs "yeah, whenever the frick you want to"

Will their be voters who avoid Republicans for this? Yeah. There will also be voters who look at the current "anything goes" abortion stance from the other side and avoid that.

I used "democracy" as in, "we vote for our elections".

Doesn't matter if it's a pure democracy or a republic. Multiple levels of elections matter and you need more people on your side to win them all.
