Situations where the decision is "one of you will die and you have to pick one" have never been a part of the abortion discussion.

How often are these decisions black and white? The issue is if doctors have to weigh the relative risk to the mother, while also having to weigh whether that risk is high enough that they won’t be prosecuted under abortion laws.

Example: doctor thinks the mother has a 25% chance of dying or suffering significant harm if the pregnancy goes to full term. Are they going to abort the baby, knowing that a jury may have a different definition of acceptable risk than the doctor or the mother do?

Banning abortion is an extremist position.

Do it and your party is guaranteed to get slaughtered in the next election.

So...nothing changes? Not sure what your point is here. Abortion certainly isn't going to go away by voting for people who support it.

And by voting for people who oppose it you inadvertently make sure that those who support it will attain and retain power, thus losing your single button issue in the long run anyway.

It's not a battle that you're going to win

(2) government shouldn't have a say in abortion

A true conservative wants less government, so why are you fighting for a government that tells you that you cannot have an abortion?

Government's most basic responsibility is the protection of human life. Any conservative who disagrees is not a conservative, but is a demagoguing idiot.

Hell the only religion the GOP has is abortion....

If they'd drop it, they'd clean house most elections.

But, I suppose Democrats are at least still stupid enough to keep gun control as their religion.

Not what I said at all

You're never going to outlaw abortion. Placing more restrictions at the state level ensures that legislation for abortion rights will inevitably be passed at the federal level.

Supporting hard core pro life republicans is a great way to lose to democrats. So not only will you lose on the long battle of abortion, you'll also lose on every other issue.

If you don't like abortion it's probably best to encourage people not to have them.

If it is a state issue, isn’t that still giving government a say? Just a more local government?

I’m not arguing one way or another, I’m just trying to understand why people support this as a state issue and not a federal issue. What’s the distinction?

Why do you think that the Dems going back 50 years never codified any national abortion laws when they had much greater majorities in the Congress and had the White House? They are just as scared of it as the media want us to be.

Dobbs was the perfect decision. It knocked the issue back to the states. If you want to kill your baby, go have unbridled monkey sex in a blue state. Otherwise, use a condom.

One more time as others have said. All the USSC did was send it to the states. Period. Listen, read, understand

In the interest of self preservation, I prefer my politicians to have a strong sense of the value of human life. Call me crazy, but I think that's called conservatism. It used to be called classical liberalism.

You think most of the kids in the ghetto are going to make anything of themselves?

Are YOU going to pay for those kids AND take care of them??

I know. So why are republicans listing “pro life” on their campaigns? Shut the hell up about abortion in a campaign. Pro life will lose in the future. Period.
