Several states are vying to host President Donald Trump when he accepts his party’s nomination later this year, after Trump officially pulled the plug on North Carolina because of the state's concerns over the coronavirus.

Nashville, Tennessee, and several cities in Florida are among those said to be in the running. Also being considered are venues in Nevada, Georgia, Texas, Louisiana and Arizona.

In addition to Nashville, Orlando and Jacksonville, RNC officials confirmed that venues in Georgia and the cities of Las Vegas, Dallas, New Orleans and Phoenix are also under consideration, and that party officials will likely visit several possible sites in the coming days.

Use Jerryworld. Plenty of space for safe distancing and not in Dallas proper.

Destroya won’t commit to opening for the NFL. She sure as hell won’t open for Trump.

I understand why but putting it in a Democrat city with a Democrat governor considering the city was the site of one of the bigger Covid infection clusters seems like a bad idea.

Pretty much every other city on the list would be a better plan electorally and as far as local cooperation.

Have the Republican convention in a heavy democrat city, in a democrat controlled state? They did it 1988 so I guess anything's possible.

No way they allow JBE the opportunity to screw it up.

New Orleans doesn't deserve anything like that.

And speaking politically, the city is too small, is in a solid red state and is run by a democrat Mayor and democrat Governor and they are not trustworthy and reliable partners for something like this.

And I'm speaking as someone who loves Louisiana and would love to have the GOP convention here.

Democrats will tell JBE to not allow it and he will follow orders.

NOLA hosted it in 1988

I say Jacksonville

New Orleans would be a complete and utter clusterfrick. It’s built for conventions and large public events - but it would still be a clusterfrick. And probably on purpose

That was in a completely different political climate and democrats back then weren't completely batshit crazy like they are now in 2020.

Sure, the infrastructure may physically be there but the locals are not trustworthy and reliable partners for a GOP convention.
