I believe it has not received more support in the last 20 years because the government likes the ability to coerce behavior with the tax code and when it is explained by the media it is made to seem regressive by not covering the fact that you subsidize the tax for the people that cannot afford basic necessities.
I believe it hasn't recieved that support because the billionaires don't want to pay the same 20% sales tax on their $30 million houses, and $200 million yachts that you pay on your $3 loaf of bread.

I appreciate the effort, but it won't even make it to the floor for a vote.

This.

It would put an end to their racket of taking loans out against their equities, to get liquidity without incurring capital gains taxes. No way all of the mega donors that bankroll these politicians would let that happen.

I meant broader support from the American people. Also generally speaking they are already paying that tax by the increase in the costs for the construction company to comply. Also the tax is only on new goods so it wouldn't affect purchasing existing homes.

I believe that perspective openly demonstrates a fundamental misunderstanding/mischaracterization of the role embedded corporate income taxes currently play in the price of retail goods, as we speak.

Congress won't abolish daylight savings time and we are expected to believe they will vote to slash their slush funds?

Consumption tax, the rich naturally pay more. It makes so much sense it won't ever happen.

23% to the feds then another 6% to state then another 10% + local sales taxes. Sounds wonderful, as usual. Being ripped off by thieves.

The thing is very few have an effective income tax rate of 23% or more. Hell, half the country doens't pay anything at this point. I don't think that tax increase is going to be as popular as people think it will be.

That is the incidius cycle of the US Tax Code.

It creates a cottage industry where the government hires millions of employees to verify and cross check your taxes and goes to collect if you don't pay, and taxpayers hire millions of accoutants or taxpreparers to avoid paying taxes and 90% get money back.

If the government just took a fair amount of money from everyone's paycheck, you would need a tenth of the employees to collect an manage taxes.

Agree - it will disproportionately hit half the country that pays nothing right now and destroy the middle class.

You go to a consumption tax and retire the people at the IRS.

There are some arguments for a national consumption tax...this isn't one of them.

Do you really think sales taxes don't need tax offices monitoring compliance?

You think states with sales taxes don't have revenue department employees?

Sales taxes can be quite complex. What counts? What is excluded? How do you define those things?

TARIFFS & DOGE JACKASS

SORRY to sound like a prick, but I don’t think you’ve been reading or listening!

1. DOGE will cut substantial “FAT & BS spending”, the goal was $2T in cuts, but that may be too ambitious, but $1T sounds very doable based on what i’ve been reading and watching.

Think NATO spending (pull out or make other countries pay their fair share and USA to only pay our fair share - right now we pay 2-3 x’s more than we are supposed to, BS Paris Climate accord, studies to turn monkeys into Trannies using Meth & Cocaine type of waste.

De-Regulations, shut down Unconstitutional (3-letter agencies) that are unlawful and only slow down business.

force Gubment Cheese workers to show up for work, move offices into their jurisdictional areas in the country, cheaper cost of living and scale DC centralized power down!

2. TRADE DEALS, no more (10 for you, 1 for Me) type of deals.

force other countries to stop bending us over!

TARIFFS are how the Gubment spending used to be financed by!!!

it’s in the Bible actually that what is being done now is not the way it’s meant to be.

With tariffs, the lesser countries will be HUMBLED, which will give us more Power!

We have most resources that we need, Yet, we prop up the rest of the world.

MAGA AMERICAN FIRST AGENDA will pay for itself!

SEE PANAMA CANAL!

We built that shite, at the very least, we should pay no “Tonnage Taxes” for our shipments moving thru there. BUT INSTEAD. that POS JIMMY CARTER WE BURIED YESTERDAY basically GAVE IT TO CHINA BACK THEN!

All these thugs add up!

The IRS & tax system is so corrupt & unfair to the American People!

Especially small business owners like myself! It’s almost impossible to get ahead unless your making big licks and rolling But if your just making a solid living, Couple hundred K$ year profit. your getting hammered back down to middle class if you play the tax game correctly to their corrupt arse shite!

let’s say you clear $300k for the year, yeah, that’s a very solid living, everyone could live with that and have a great life

But now take 40% of it in the blink of an eye.

Then add in all the double taxation methods, sales taxes. etc etc etc

your bringing home less than half of that. and $140K for a hpusehold these days with cost of living etc… isn’t all that much.

then you have 1 bad business year & break even or lose money, WHO TF IS GONNA BAIL YOU OUT?

NOBODY!

So. this crap HAS TO CHANGE! get used to it, I HAVE ZERO SYMPATHY FOR ANY, and i MEAN ANY GUBMENT WORKER THAT GETS CUT DUE TO DOGE & IRS TAX REFORM!

they can come join the real world and see how hard it is to make it!

Found the tax accountant. I’d love nothing more than to see the tax accountants and tax attorneys in the breadline with the IRS employees.
