This is false. Our press and the government are one and the same. WAPO "journalist" report what the CIA tells them. NYT reports what the FBI tells them. Criticize them and you end up like Sharyl Atkinson.

Sincerely curious. I dont just buy MSM portrayal. I've worked with both Russians and Ukrainians over the years and listened to several Russian streamers regularly..some that left.. others still there. Ive heard that over the years that corruption in how the tax system works has really screwed a lot of places outside of those two cities from having funds they once had to fund their municipalities and development.

The press is more than those two entities. Biden isnt shutting down OANN or War Room or the thousands of other outlets that cater to their opposition.

When Russia was a communist nation you could also walk around Leningrad as you did. Do you still call that freedom?
Russia is one of those unique places in the world - and may be the only one - where over certain years in its history, although the streets might've been safe during times of peace where people could stroll where they wanted, there were places where citizens were more vulnerable and in physical jeopardy staying within the 4 walls of their own living quarters.
If one goes by what went on in the Russian House on the Embankment.
At one time moderately priced, or free, living quarters available to the Party's hierarchy that Stalin - the ultimate Bolshevik - had constructed to keep his people close to him.
Those Party apparatchiks were "free," if freedom is translated to mean living under constant electronic surveillance, and knowing that each apartment there had a discreet entryway to the elevators that were used solely by the NKVD.
If any resident were decided to be an enemy of the state, the elevator door to their apartment would open with NKVD entering the apartment to lead the inhabitants out through the apartment's front door, and affixing a paraffin and wire seal on the door which would let them know if anyone tried to enter that apartment.
Generally, residents who were taken from the House on the Embankment were never seen again by their neighbors. Even entire families sometimes disappeared.
There were apartments in which no one was allowed.
Now what's the connection for all of this?
Not saying that there are any comparisons, but still what a great promotion and confidence builder for the standing invitation by Putin to conservatives to come live in Russia in the new digs he's planning to have constructed for them only.
He has described it as "a new village for American and Canadian conservatives," although he might have some difficulty finding legitimate conservatives in Canada.
Nothing specific yet about the level of surveillance those future "residents" of the new Russian village might be under, but it just seems that those who sign on and who like attention, will never, ever feel alone and ignored again.
But seriously, what legitimate conservative could possibly resist such an offer/opportunity.
Plus, it would be the ultimate litmus test for those purporting to be conservatives as to just how much faith and trust they really have in the little Bolshevik.
But then, according to the Bolshevik Code, maybe this custom-built village for American and Canadian "conservatives" is just another of his empty connivances.

But we have "freedom" of the press and it shouldn't happen at all right?

FBI/CIA convinced our media it was Russian disinfo. For outlets which realized the FBI/CIA was full of shite, the information structure to carry contradictory thier information was undercut, severely limiting reach of their message.
So how much does it actually matter that the press is "free" to say something, if Americans are prevented from hearing/seeing/reading it?
I'd argue there is barely any difference at all.
If this was a permanent feature of how social media and all media functions ..ie depending on government stooges to vet all information for public consumption than I would agree. Its not. We have the power ,(well Musk did anyway) to fully expose what occurred and make changes or seek out other news outlets. Nothing in our system is perfect but we have the ability to fight and make changes.

The latter is what 91 criminal counts, a $300 million civil suit, and multi-state ballot removal proceedings targeting Trump are about.
If he loses, so does your premise.

I don’t care to argue about Putin, but if you think we are controlled by the good guys, you’re lost.

Westbank111 is 1000% spot on with his post. NATO and US have been slowly inching their way toward Russian border for past 20-30 years, despite agreeing NOT to in agreement between Reagan and Gorbachev. Russia will NOT lose in Ukraine and will NOT allow NATO and US to overtake them. They WILL use nukes if forced to.

"Western Elites" have to have an enemy so seek it - as the US State Dept did in 2014 with the coup in Ukraine

The blood of over 100K people fall on the hands of our government. They caused this and should be held accountable.

When the Ukraine mess started I searched and listened to several of Putin's explanations and did research from there. It showed clearly how we had mishandled Russia after the USSR fell and continued to do so for years. Mostly with using NATO to press further and further on their borders.
We have continued to do a horrible job of providing responsible international leadership since Dems have been in control.

"They" or somebody, also lied to the Ukraine that it would be just fine for them to get rid of their nuclear hardware, which probably contributed more to this current disaster than anything else.
