No, that’s the point of government. It’s not your money. You pay for the military and judges to allow the government to legally steal from you. Isn’t it a beautiful system.

Not at all.
I just gave an example of a program that I imagine you want to be phased out, but used your logic of why we shouldn't
There is nothing special about social security. It's the same tax, spent, and redistribute program as section 8 or snap or Medicaid

Well, SSI isn't supposed to go towards that correct? I know the government screws people over with taxes,

Since joining the workforce post college I’ve saved with the mindset I would never see a penny of SS.
What’s nice is we’re at the max we can be fleeced this time of year, so get to keep a little more of our money.

No rational person would be upset about it. SS has to be "fixed."

it would fund itself if these 35 and unders actually worked a job

Oh, I'm plenty upset about it.

But I also acknowledge that this is true.
Two things can be true at once.

I 100% agree with this.
Honestly, it should older but I’ll take 70.
It is insuarance not a lifestyle

quote:It is that but you can't. Millions have varying years of service paid into a system they have no control over but intend to use when they reach retirement age. Many of us don't necessarily need it but not everyone has the forethought to do what they need to do to prepare for when they can't or don't want to work. NC_Tigah can explain it a whole lot better but the scam is that they started stealing from the SS Trust from the get go, borrowing money from it for operating budget and offer a paltry 2% interest. Had the SS trust not been stolen, it would not be a scam and recipients couldn't possibly spend all that was in there.
Yes it's always been a scam
Time to phase it out

The life expectancy for an American today is 78.4 years.
Having said that, changing retirement age to 70 will not, by itself, fix SS long term. COLA reductions would help. Unfortunately as Congress has every incentive to grow SS, not wind it down, FICA taxes will be increased.

Boomers have mostly stopped or are stopping paying into both systems due to retirement and will now draw both down. It's a real dilemma considering the size of the boomer generation.
Why?
There was a swell of boomers working paying their share into the system correct? That's increased revenue to the system. What happened to that increased revenue swell into the system from the boomers' working period?
Who used it up? Boomers generated a swell of increased revenue. That money should still be in the system, but someone else used it up. Who got it?
Disclaimer: I have little idea how SS works...

Time to phase it out

I'm 50, if I could stop paying in today and forfeit benefits later, I would without a second thought.

Yep, it's your money, my money, it's every worker's money who paid into it and it was stolen by Joe Biden and the crooks in Congress. They pulled the "Ole Bait and Switch"routine, then they stole it. I watched them do it on television. The theft so enraged Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan (D-NY) he pranced on the floor of the Senate glaring at his colleagues and blurted out,"It's official, we're stealing from the American people".
Without a doubt Joe Biden is the most morally bankrupt excuse for a human being in this history of the U.S.Congress.
Never let these clowns who post on here, tell you we need to do away with Social Security. Do away with S/S if you insist, but give us our money back first.
As for Rand Paul, I best not go any further here.

Charge the illegals and HB1 “talent” an extra tax to pay for it . Problem solved.

I look at most people who’ve retired and they seem like they’re wasting their lives away. I have no idea why anyone would want to do nothing of value with their later years. I’m fully prepared for retirement, and maybe one day I’ll get tired of it, but I just can’t imagine not working. It all seems like some boomer fetish to me.
