Someone wanna tell Rand that the Border Patrol and DHS officers wear uniforms. Dumb reasoning... I honestly think the Army would handle the effort much better.

I agree with Rand and I don't think it's even necessary.

Use law enforcement to pick up the known criminals, and then enforce the laws on the books and most will self deport.

Plenty of strategies that don't entail domestic military operations.

Military to protect the border? I do support that.

I tend to agree but not sure what prevents using the Nat Guard to facilitate and provide logistical support while empowering ICE and BP alongside the various State Patrols to enforce this...

I don't particularly love the idea of the actual Army being deployed on US soil, and the media will go nuts with the optics similar to the Elian Gonzales mess.

I don't like the idea of them going house to house either but I'm good with them giving rides back home.

We already know from Afghanistan that we can pack about 650 into a C-17.

Border patrol has always been a job for the National Guard. They just havent been doing it.

I can just send them directly to the trailer parks, they don't have to go in most subdivisions.

Rand is being a bit of a b**** on this one. We aren’t talking about a tank battalion rolling through town, rounding up illegals for deportation. Any government official, carrying out government duties (especially when force may be necessary) should be uniformed so that they can be properly identified. We routinely see problems with police interactions when officers are not in uniform or fail to announce their presence as police. So if military is needed to assist law enforcement in some areas, so be it. Who cares that they are in fatigues. Not sure how that’s any different than local militarized SWAT units carrying it out.

Operators taking out immigrant gangs in plain clothes and/or in the middle of the night im ok with. But general arrest/deportation operations should be done by people in uniform.

Paul is absolutely right. Remember all those demented Dems who swore Trump was going to be "literally Hitler?" Yeah, the image of the military kicking in doors and pulling people out of their homes will just reinvigorate them and give credence to their stupid predictions. Hard Pass!

Many cities will not allow their police officers to be used for this, and functionally this is the same as the military being used. Would even look the same.

There is already enough federal law enforcement for this, where cities are uncooperative. There is arguable way more federal law enforcement than we need. Put them to work doing this. Leave the military out of it. It's counter-productive.

The Posse Comitatus Act prohibits military personnel from civil/domestic law enforcement.

However, this was an acute & chronic illegal invasion by millions of foreigners. The military can certainly defend our citizens & communities by rounding up the millions of foreign invaders.
