In regard to the current congressional primaries in Louisiana (and other states I guess but them acting on this would be a stretch I think)can anything really be done about CD 6 this year? Other districts were redrawn some based on CD6 and mail in ballots have already started being filled out and mailed. Can they really suspend the election until a map is re-drawn or swap back to an old school jungle primary in November if they choose to redraw but can’t before the primary is over in 3 weeks? I know the Purcell Doctrine essentially says no rule changes this close to an election but does a SCOTUS ruling on the legality of a map qualify as a rule change?

As much as it sucks seems like the path of least resistance at this point is to let it stand as is with decision that CD6 is dissolved and maps redrawn for 2028. Love the ruling, but damn the timing has created a potential clusterfrick at the moment.

The timing seems like a nightmare to do it for this cycle. Louisiana may be able to do it, but many other states have already started primaries. Florida has a little time to do there, and a couple others. But many do not.

Purcell is going to be in play very soon.

Either way, 2030 is going to be an ugly bloodbath of gerrymandering that leaves very few competitive seats. Between Citizens United and the North Carolina gerrymandering case, this SCOTUS has done more damage to the American election process than any court in history.

At a minimum, I'd like to see Congress ban redistricting outside the once-a-decade allotment, so we don't end up with states redrawing their maps every two years.

He can’t be bothered with trivial matters such as this. Not when there’s threads about special interests paying off Neo Nazis to tell them super secret information about them being white supremacists.

Results from any Federal election in a district that is organized contrary to the opinion in this case and violative of the Constitution of The United States Amendments 14 and 15 as interpreted will be null and void.

I just posted this in a different thread because I didn't see this one and yours is way better:

Does Purcell matter when the decision comes from the Supreme Court?

I'm gonna go out on a limb and suggest one way it can be done in Louisiana is for the Sec of State to ignore results on mail-in ballots with respect to votes cast for congressional seats (which are now considered unconstitutional); legislators can redraw district maps during the current regular session and establish new qualifying/election dates that align with fall elections.

I don't see how a Supreme Court ruling on a Louisiana case specifically involving congressional maps can be ignored.

No doubt. But I don't think our governor can afford to get this wrong...a second time.

So illegally gerrymandering for racial equality is okay but having fair representation that doesn’t evolve around racism is bad ?

Yes. You can’t draw districts based off of race. But districts drawn on political lines are outside of the supreme courts jurisdiction. That is a political question best left to the other branches. Seperation of powers issue.

I think trying to push it for this year risks more trouble than necessary, ultimately ending up with the courts saying there isn't enough time. The best option would be to go forward this year as-is, then tackle it as part of next year's session or as a special session.

Are PT posters who aren't real, legitimate attorneys, but pretend to be attorneys on the internet invited, as well?
