Air quality:

Is it just a coincidence that the small region of Italy that has literally the worst air quality in all of Europe is in a class of its own when it comes to mortality rate? China as well has horrendous air quality in all of its major cities.

You can also watch the video on this page as it shows satellite images of Europe as Italy begins the lockdown, and you can see the pollution levels over northern Italy (the worst in Europe) fall as the lockdown takes effect.

COVID-19 is an ACE-2 respiratory virus.
Those with aged or compromised immune or respiratory systems are high risk.

Already weakened respiratory issues. Makes sense.

Those who smoke are also at higher risk. It isn't just age or compromised immune systems.

What about Iran? Also Spain is getting hit pretty hard too, but their air doesn't seem that terrible for the most part.

No clue about Iran since who knows what the actual numbers there are, but in Spain they are seeing almost half the CFR that Italy is. I'm not really saying that it's going to spread or not spread based on air quality, just that it makes it more serious once you get it.

A lot of factories in that region

I was over there last year and couldn't believe the contrast between incredible beauty and ugly arse factory stuff from Milan to Venice

Italy is getting fricked up because they import Chiense from Wuhan to work in their factories. The end.

It's also surrounded by mountains, so the air doesn't circulate as freely. Kind of like in California.

Surprisingly, south Louisiana is doing a lot better.

Northern Italy on the other map was >25, the worst Louisiana gets on here is around 10. More than twice as good.

Also, according to WHO, you really only start getting health problems when you go above 10, at least for this measure of air quality.

Italy is one of the world's oldest Nations. China has a very high percentage of smokers.

Well, I'm not the only one who noticed: LINK

Scientists who analysed the Sars coronavirus outbreak in China in 2003 found that infected people who lived in areas with more air pollution were twice as likely to die as those in less polluted places.

Why is air quality so bad in Georgia and Alabama?

GA is air pollution from Atlanta I suppose.

BIRMINGHAM sits in a bowl so that may be what’s happening there.

No sea breezes maybe?
