We know why. The press will jump on "how" you say something regardless of what is really meant by a statement.
In the debate Trump said "sure" when asked about it, but what Wallace was waiting for was a more declarative statement. Libs care more about feelings than facts and that's why words matter and they will run with any statement regardless of the reality of the situation.
