You’re assuming that the capabilities we get from our European bases are a good thing.
That’s only true if you assume that we should be at war in the Middle East and North Africa.
If those wars are a waste of money and American lives, then the bases serve no purpose, and are also a waste of money.
Washington never challenges the assumption. Like you, they would say the bases make us more capable and are a good use of money, but they’d never look at what we use them for. And figure out if that makes any sense.
