I haven't seen this specifically discussed so apologize if it has been. Once we get to the other side of Covid whatever that looks like... treatment, vaccine, just goes away, whatever happens, can we expect "social distancing" and emergency health orders to become standard government behavior? If the moving goal post now says it's about saving every life possible and economic considerations be damned, why wouldn't we do this every time there is a "bad" flu season predicted by the CDC? I'm sure there will be those on the left who would support this because it "shows you care".

I'm definitely fist-bumping from here on out.

I think we are going to start to see the narrative shift and subtle changes in language as this moves into the next phases. We will start hearing about things being the “new normal”.

There is no way that the power hungry waste this crisis without trying to redefine our lives. Hell I read on here a few weeks ago about the UN trying to create a stimulus fund and that they want to use the opportunity to let the fossil fuel industries die and replace them with Green Energy.

Expect a lot more of this type of narrative in the months ahead.

No change in my behavior. I don't care about other people's lives. I don't want them to care about my life. It's called freedom.

I saw a friend yesterday for the first time since all this started. We shook hands and neither of us thought anything about it.

I’m thinking a lot more people may be able to telecommute but that a lot of horseshite done as part of this will meet resistance.

Can you imagine a grown man fist bumping another grown man after a job interview, for example? Social distancing? Why start now?

We make fun of fake news and alarmist climate modelers but all of a sudden, they nailed this?

The new normal needs to be the old normal. Make America Great Again.

If I hear the phrase new normal one more time I will spit.

It’s so annoying. It’s a white wash language that’s meant to normalize shite that is unacceptable.

I fear that we are going to be further stuck into our own silos because of this, and it’s not going to help anything.

We are social animals. It is not, nor should it be normal to cease having concerts, sporting events, parties, weddings, funerals, church services, hugs, handshakes, office meetings all of that.

There is no substitute for human interaction. You can make shite virtual all you want, but it is just not in any way spiritually healthy or good for society.

I am a sometimes mask wearer, because I’m polite - but I resent it. And sometimes I don’t wear it. Because I think it’s completely stupid and there’s no proof it does any good at all.

This isn’t a cancer. It’s a virus. That our bodies will figure out a way to fight off. IF WE LET OURSELVES.

Old people dying alone without their families or a burial is the worst. What kind of compassion is that? To die alone in a hospital without holding your wife’s hand.

Seriously. Wash your hands. Listen to your doctor. There’s not a fricking politician who knows what is better for your health than your own doctor. Or better for your spirit than your own loved ones.

I seriously will not live my life in fear. It makes me CRAZY

7500 people a day were dying in the USA everyday before COVID19.

Has there been a true excess mortality in 2020 compared to 2019?

Testing people who are not sick is a strategy that may be difficult to implement unless we switch from shoving a swab all the way to the back of you nose to spitting in a cup.

I never liked the handshake so I won’t miss it.
I don’t like in person meetings so that’s fine.

There is a (fairly large) segment of the population that is quite willing to embrace the nanny state and shutdown because they can sit In their home and watch Tiger King and not have to worry about normal responsibilities.

I completely agree with you but there are people out there that will do everything they can to make this standard behaviour. And it is not because they want to protect themselves or other.

no. Other dog whistle mantras will be developed to train the population. this isn't a new normal; it's just a step in the path of controlling the ignorant masses.

Everytime there is a virus in the future local governments will want to shut down and expect federal money to help them out. Will be their way of paying the debt they have because no one seems to understand a fricking budget anymore

I will keep a healthy stockpile of hand sanitizer, toilet paper, and frozen beef from here on out. Might even invest in “muh ventilator.”

I believe that all of the neighbors ratting on other neighbors had its origins in the post-9/11 “See something, say something.”

Citizens have been conditioned to embrace, not laugh at, the Mrs. Kravitz’s of this world. I always thought Endora was hotter than Samantha, by the way.

People are getting over some of it already. I’m seeing kids playing in close contact with each other, people on boats, playing volleyball, shaking hands - in short being normal humans.

The risk is lower and lower the more we learn. Check the CDC’s latest numbers - overall mortality rate of 0.26%. Not much worse than the flu. Something like 0.05% for those under 50. Is it really such a deadly virus for most of us?

We are made to interact, have human contact, and be social. Being spaced 6 feet apart, wearing masks, etc. are against human nature.

Same...had a couple and their son over last night for dinner and drinks. First thing he did was high five and pull me in for a bro-hug (and he is liberal). May take some time but I believe life as we knew it, will go on.

Well said, all of it. I'm an on-the-fence(r) about the masks because of being an asthmatic. I'll comply, but I too have limits. That said, I'm not going to be going around licking shopping carts and spitting on cakes (birthday, not urinal). I've known people who share the same opinion as you or I, but also people who think walking outside is worse than Chernobyl. I have a cousin who's a doctor who thinks, while good to be cautious, that the politics involved in this are giving people misleading information. It's ok to play it safe, but beyond stupid to shelter yourself 24/7.
