Which was a re-authorization of LBJ's act which was part of the war on poverty. Perhaps your lack of education prevented you from knowing that and blaming Bush.

Pimp Jr, HS Junior at a public school just walked in from school. I asked him all these things. He did not know about Rwanda (I'm on it) but he knew the rest. He says "slavery got 50 pages and the boat people got a paragraph". Which considering that 15%-20% of BRMHS is Vietnamese and their parents actually fled there recently, might be a very TOPICAL and germane thing to discuss.

Maybe if we study the UNIVERSAL nature of human suffering, we actually create the sense that we are all in this together.

One thing I have noticed about most millennials is they are not interested in history, but what is going on now and the future.

How many people in Generation X know who General Pershing(the greatest general in America’s history) was or that women have been allowed to vote for less than 100 years.

Each generation know less and less about history.

You have a problem with diverting any discussion away from Race Grievance, specifically black victimology. Kids today learn all about slavery and Jim Crow, ad nauseam. Maybe we could fit the rest of the human experience in there somewhere too? Ask a black teen who "the boat people" were or what happened in Armenia or Rwanda for instance, and watch the blank stares.

I think the point is that for generations we taught about atrocities on other countries, but avoided the difficult parts of our own history. Now we're focusing on our own history at the expense of a global history.

Neither is better than the other, I just wish kids today could fit more than one thing in their head.

unny you would have a problem with kids being taught the truth that America has been horribly racist and oppressive

Just about every modern civilization in recorded history has been brutal, oppressive and racist. If you further back it gets worse.

Why not teach that the US under our governmental model has done more to eradicate these tendencies in the 20th century than any other civilized country in human history.

We fought a war over slavery (or at least that’s the narrative) that was horribly brutal. We fought against fascism and genocide in WW2. We set up a whole system of laws to criminalize racism, sexism, etc.

Jesus man...

So was she born in 00 or 01? Because she's definitely not a millennial if she's a senior in high school this year. You're thinking of gen z, buddy.
I was born in 91, and I have no fricking clue to whom this poll is referring to. Seriously, I could not name a single person I grew up with that was around my age and went through the same school system that does not to this day know what Auschwitz was. Anyone who thinks this poll holds any significance as a reflection on millenials is a moron.

Well they start out with Heather Has Two Mommies, and the end at advanced socialism and victimization 101.

I wasn't speaking to the generation. I'm speaking to how different it is what I was taught and what she has been taught.
