There is actually a multilateral treaty that prohibits this. China is included in this treaty.
And the US has like 10 airports and airfields in Antarctica.

IIRC, we have far more installations down there than anyone else, including at least two major permanent stations at McMurdo (sp?) and Amundsen-Scott
ETA: Int’l law prohibits militarization of Antarctica, but you’d never get me to believe we don’t test some of our tech and toys down there where no one can see it.
