Same with slavery and the South. My ancestors owned slaves. I don't apologize for It and I won't expect anyone else to apologize for it either. But it happened. And I don't believe we should cleanse our history of our atrocities.

I don't think anyone wants to cleanse it. I think people want others to stop idolizing it. Like waving a confederate battle flag around yelling "Southern Pride!". That's idolizing it.

Oh you. Don't want to cleanse it? The Nola statues say hello.

And I can damn near guarantee that if you didn't give attention to the trailer park trash who doesn't have a plantation owner in their very straight family tree, they would go back to their single wide and go back to fricking their sister. Just white trash looking for attention.

Are statues of confederate figures idolizing them? Or are we just remembering them? That's an important question.

It's a lot more than just the statues, mon frere. There is a push to cleanse anything related to slavery. And a statue is a statue. It is unable to idolize anything. It is inanimate.

Okay, let me rephrase. Is keeping a statue of someone who did something that society now thinks is wrong either A. Remembering history or B. Society idolizing that person.

Remembering history. Shall we tear down statues of Washington? Sherman? All great men have done innocent people wrong. You can frame a victim mentality about any and all historical figures. Every. Single. One.

So where does it stop? How does one claim one statue is bad yet ignore every other statue? History us filled with great men doing horrible things.

downvotes and no rebuttals. Sorry you losers get upset at inanimate objects

Most Americans probably ignore our wrongdoing in the Vietnam war as well

The US government does not. The Japanese government mostly ignores what the Imperial Japanese government ordered and condoned.

Lt. Calley killed those civilians and his men killed more. The Imperial Japanese government ordered that every US POW would be executed rather than fall back into US control.
