I’m not defending Chavez in any way, just here to say that grown men diddling underage girls was completely normalized in that time period. Ask Jimmy Page and 500 other rock stars, actors etc. I myself had inappropriate relations with a much older woman as a young teen and it felt pretty socially acceptable by the standards of that time. NOT condoning it just saying it was weird times in America back then . A good time to be a child rapist and get high fives.

I'm old enough to remember those days and there's no doubt that a lot of rock stars were banging underage groupies. It was known and somewhat tolerated.
BUT...
The groupies presumably were willing participants. My sense from the story about Chavez is that the underage girls he raped were not willing participants. That is the biggest distinction IMO

There was a lot of promiscuity going on in that movement. Doris Huerta claims to have had children by Cesar that she gave away then married his brother and had kids with him. That means she has kids that are cousins.
It is awful that he used his charm for evil but Cesar was just a man. I like having a holiday at the end of March so I hope we get to keep it. They can call it farm workers day.
