We really missed an opportunity to start a conversation of economics during the recent Tulsa riots anniversary. People kept saying how successful Tulsa’s “Black Wall Street” was but we never dug into that claim. Why was that area successful? Was it because of government intervention or did the businessmen embrace capitalism and the Protestant work ethic? The lesson from Tulsa should be to try to replicate and encourage what made “Black Wall Street” a success.
Somehow, I doubt higher taxes were the reason for the success.

Lower taxes means keeping more of your own money.
