Pentagon Fires Stars and Stripes Publisher, Editor-in-Chief, and Reporter for “Insubordination”
quote:https://www.thegatewaypundit.com/2026/08/pentagon-fires-stars-stripes-publisher-editor-chief-reporter/
The Pentagon moved Friday to fire three senior employees at the taxpayer-supported military newspaper Stars and Stripes, accusing them of “insubordination” amid an escalating battle over the publication’s direction.
Publisher Max Lederer, Editor-in-Chief Erik Slavin, and Middle East reporter Lara Korte were each served with separation notices and given five days to appeal,
The stunning shake-up comes as the Trump administration works to overhaul the military publication, drag it into the 21st century, and eliminate the “woke distractions” that have infected institutions across the federal government.
Slavin and Korte claimed they were targeted over interviews they gave to CBS News without authorization for a segment that aired in July.
Slavin told CBS that the Pentagon accused him of insubordination after he publicly declared that any effort to control the newspaper’s reporting would cross a “red line.”
The firings follow months of tension between Pentagon officials and the newspaper’s entrenched leadership.
Chief Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell previously announced plans to bring Stars and Stripes “into the 21st century” and refocus the outlet away from “woke distractions that syphon morale.”

Damn right. Fire anyone who is not in line with the administration. What employer would have employees who work against the employer?

Sounds like they should have been fired months ago.

It's stunning how our population has become so distant from common sense. These guys thinking they can use their employer's platform to push any agenda they want is no different from a public school teacher thinking they have every right to push any agenda they want to our children.

But... but... muh trans-genocide!11
Snark aside, this is a double-edged sword but there is an argument to be made that it was already slicing us and now it's hitting the Left on the backswing.

Don’t have the link, but AP News reported that the editor resigned yesterday.
Either way, he’s gone. But it looks a little like a pissing contest as to how.

He did resign but not effective until sometime in Sep. They decided to fire him now. Good riddance either way

Thank MSM and Social Media. These freaks have a platform. Glad to see some accountability. You'll see the blue haired freaks (and cubbie) screaming Freedom of Speech. It is comical, they think Freedom of Speech means they can say anything they want without any ramifications.

Oh shite, now I know where all of these new posters are coming from. Here I thought they were coming from The View's re-org all this time.
Downvote away...

And it's happening right before midterms.

We either have free press or we do not. Under Trump, a free press is not allowed despite clear constitutional protection.
Right wingers hate the things that actually make America great.

I think the difference is this publication is supposed to be a government mouthpiece.

Do you also believe we need state run media?

Typical liberal projection. Do you feel as passionate about the Second amendment (I’m putting aside your clear misunderstanding of the 1st)

You know…I believe President Trump is better than what we would have gotten with a second Biden term or Kamala Harris, and I now believe he’s become old man losing his marbles and needs to step aside and let JD take over.
That said though, you make a good point. If you go against what your employer desires or needs, don’t be surprised if you’re shitcanned.
When Obama was elected in ‘08 and Biden in ‘20 and some oil industry execs started having to brain crunch on cost savings to offset increased costs on regulations and potential taxes targeting their companies, the first thing they should have done is walk through the parking garage and fire anyone with an Obama/Biden sticker on their vehicle.
Harsh? Yes. But you voted to have extra burdens placed on the company that signs your paycheck, and not only that, but you proudly displayed it on your vehicle. Deal with it.

Y'all called it a propaganda rag when the story came out.
Now it’s called subordination.
Hegseth has to explain how it is insubordination.
Were they ordered not to publish a story that painted a disturbing picture?

So they actually reported the truth about the war and got fired?

It is explained in the OP. 2 gave interviews without permission and 1 threatened his bosses. Would get you fired from most any employer. What more does Hegseth owe you?

Did nobody actually read the story? All of these knee-jerk OMB reactions are baffling.
