America’s newest nuclear stealth bomber made its debut Friday after years of secret development and as part of the Pentagon’s answer to rising concerns over a future conflict with China.

The B-21 Raider is the first new American bomber aircraft in more than 30 years. Almost every aspect of the program is classified.

As evening fell over the Air Force’s Plant 42 in Palmdale, the public got its first glimpse of the Raider in a tightly controlled ceremony. It started with a flyover of the three bombers still in service: the B-52 Stratofortress, the B-1 Lancer and the B-2 Spirit. Then the hangar doors slowly opened and the B-21 was towed partially out of the building.

“This isn’t just another airplane,” Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said. “It’s the embodiment of America’s determination to defend the republic that we all love.”

The B-21 is part of the Pentagon’s efforts to modernize all three legs of its nuclear triad, which includes silo-launched nuclear ballistic missiles and submarine-launched warheads, as it shifts from the counterterrorism campaigns of recent decades to meet China’s rapid military modernization.

Northrop Grumman’s B-21 Raider will be unveiled this Friday, 12/2! Curious how the Raider got its name? Finding itself inspired by the World War 2 Doolittle Raiders, who were 80 volunteers led by Lt. Col. Jimmy Doolittle. However, the Doolittle Raiders operated on a limited budget with older planes that they ditched over China.

I don't care for the guy but I'll give him credit for using the word "republic".

I agree. It is so odd seeing he said this. It is like he is going through the motions of protocol in history but does he mean it?

China being called out is odd as all of the current day political strife & wokeness, parading transexuals in the military in govt. Seems to cow tail the enemy.

We should be addressing education more. How many kids are taught this history in school today?

When are they going to unveil the new musket rifle?

The chinese are moving at warp speed to control space and we are futzing around with technology that is over a century old.

And lets not start the ole triad defense argument, when chini zaps them with a targeted EMP from a satellite they never leave the ground. In fact they never even get the signal to leave the ground because chini has taken out all our communication sats.

You do realize that chini is sending sats to deep orbit which was virgin terrain of the US until recently, wonder why they would want them in the same orbital trajectory as all our military sats????

On another note, I love how all our branches of govt are competing against each other to produce redundant defense products, who cares a trillion here a trillion there???

And while we spend money on these obsolete tech, lets not forget the real wars are low tech so we gotta spend money there, and of course for all the other countries like Ukraine.

The MIC is eatin and eatin large.

Billions for these war machines. The world is arming to the teeth. Only a matter of time before some despot launches those nukes. Incinerates a major American city (or cities).

Billions, and billions, and billions.

War is hell - William Tucumseh Sherman

By vaporizing our many "enemies"? No wonder the world loves US sooo much. We are the only country in the world that has the use of nuclear bombs as a "pre-emptive", first strike weapon.

I get your frustration in this but I would like to point out that they would NEVER publicly unveil the latest tech. This is at a minimum 15 year old stuff. It just eventually goes mainstream enough that they “announce” it.

I read they are designing the B-21 to be flown by a pilot or remotely like a drone.

Like I said above. Guess I'll have to look back into it and get back to this thread later.

With the trillions of tax dollars the American people have ponied up for the nation's defense they should be unveiling an aircraft that's capable of hypersonic flight with a cloaking device......and a bad arse death ray.

Actually, “the world” loves the US much more than your average liberal American and the new crop of youngsters who were raised by the village to be SJW idiots.

Example: millions of illegals flood us every year. No hate there. Or go to Poland or the three Baltic nations. They love us.

quote:

We are the only country in the world that has the use of nuclear bombs as a "pre-emptive", first strike weapon.

And this was a good thing! Millions of Chinese, Russian, Korean, British, Indian, Australian, French, American, and Japanese military boys would die or be crippled, and millions of Japanese civilians would have starved if the war continued.

The bombs were a blessing in the insanity of WW2! Not surprised that Ms. Teacher Union and/or Prof. Gender Studies didn’t teach you this!
