Because of increased fuel prices. The democrats will pounce on this..

Not a good look in the crucial rust belt States, or any where...

They're sitting on an endless supply of NATGAS they fight producers on. Especially in NY.

Ten percent??? GTFO!

quote:

"This is the seasonal reset for energy prices for electric energy prices for all utilities across Pennsylvania," said PUC spokesperson Nils Hagen-Frederiksen. "Anybody that's been tracking any form of energy, whether you're at the gas station, propane, any form of fuel, has seen those prices go up."

Who the hell is running their power plant off gasoline?

Natural gas is still low. LINK
If you go back to the beginning of the monthly average charts (Jan 1997), the price is still only ~1/2 the average price for the period (and far lower than the early aughts) and ~$1 below the average of the last decade.

This is also while Pennsylvania sits on one of the largest untapped natural gas reserves in the country (Marcellus Shale).

Democrats love to scream about "price-gouging," except when it's politically expedient.

this will be a huge political issue and Trump is on the wrong side of it by leaning into Big Tech. Maine passed a law recently that banned new data center construction, which I actually agree with.

It’s a fine line of supporting businesses/advancing technology with respecting rural communities, but I would rather be on the side of the rural community.

I always like any new tech but AI is going to have to show itself as being truly beneficial for humanity. Otherwise, no one will stand for all this extra power consumption and expense.

As it is, it's more of a novelty. No company has made a profit from it (whether providing it or using it).

Where I work we have actually scaled back our AI stuff for development.

We still have to fix its mistakes.

It's too expensive and now we're hiring more people just to manage it and honestly, it's not working out.

Driven by the massive electricity demands of artificial intelligence and grid capacity constraints, major tech companies are increasingly building or contracting for their own power sources rather than relying solely on the traditional electrical grid

Democrats were for higher prices because they thought it would force people to cut consumption and save the environment. Now they are against higher prices and don’t care about the environment.

In the 2024 elections:

Pennsylvania 7th district:

Republican - 50.4%
Democrat - 49..4%

Pennsylvania 10th district:

Republican 50.5%
Democrat 49.3%

Pennsylvania 8th

Republican 50.7%
Democrat 49.1%

Most likely an understatement to say these probably flip.

And:

They wont allow any new gas lines in the state

They banned natural gas from larger building new construction

They buy power from Canada then bitch when Trump tariffed it

They are part of that ponzi scheme carbon trader organization, regional greenhouse gas initiative, where they are a company, they layer in another set of bureaucrats to manage this company, then force the local power company to put in another layer of bureaucrats to manage their end of the process.........then bury it all in your bill as "transfer costs"....and blame Trump.

I notice one of the first things the new gov of VA did was rejoin the regional greenhouse gas initiative. What a fking scam to outright steal from people using power.

True.

They are building their own private utilities.

But their generators still burn the same fuel your traditional utility has to buy.

Depends on the generation type.

They are also required to provide the own water source and cooling system.

At least in Texas.

It's kind of like NIL, nobody knows what the frick they're doing.

Unless you're using wind or solar,
you're burning gas or coal.

The new nuke fleet is years away.

are gas prices causing the pipelines and electrical lines to run slower?

Democrats were for increasing prices (creating inflation) to increase taxes paid.

How do they provide their own water source? Have it shipped in?

Do they not already have a fuel surcharge? Where I am, Entergy has a base rate that is set annually and a monthly surcharge amount that is based on their actual purchase price for that month. So if the base rate goes up, the surcharge rate should go down.
