I'm 85 - and well into my early Alsheimer's years === however, I am sure that I would not have to use - "if memory serves" for anything of that importance.
I'll never forget my first thought when JFK was assassinated - nor when 9/11 happened - or so many other ultra-abnormal events. I'm pretty sure I'd remember if I was ever seriously asked to commit treason. And for sure if I did anything so public as presiding over a Congress during the commission of such an act.

I find it funny how some on here think Trump hiring GOPe types is some sort of gotcha. who else do you hire in admin that is qualified in a bureaucracy? or at the upper levels that can be confirmed by a uni-party driven congress?
Trump’s drain the swamp rhetoric is tired and foolish, the government from top to bottom is the swamp. Trump thought he could change permanent Washington by fiat from the top with bravado and a strong economy.
Clearly that is not possible and even flushing out permanent washington from the institutions is perilous because so many qualified people are brainwashed and duplicitous
term limits may indeed be the only solution

You are badly confused. The 2 hour debates had nothing to do with Pence, and in fact they actually took place. Rep. Gosar and Senator Cruz objected to the electoral votes from Arizona, and the joint session split into House and Senate fir a 2 hour debate. Before the 2 hour debate was up, everyone was rushed out of the Capitol due to the demonstrators
At 9 pm they came back and completed their 2 hour debate, both Houses voted to accept the votes from Arizona and the joint session resumed.
McConnell had made it clear to GOP Senators he wanted no more shenanigans, so when Reps. objected to Georgia, Michigan, and Nevada, no Senators joined them and there was no debate. Josh Hawley joined in the House objection to PA, debate was held, and PA votes were accepted. By then it was 3 am, there was no way for Trump to win, and I think Wisconsin just slipped by.
None of that was controlled by Pence. Trump was asking Pence for a 10 day delay, to send votes back to the States, hoping he could convince them to change the votes. I don't think that would have been a criminal action, but there is no provision for that by Constitution or Statute.
