The federal elections are not all or nothing. It is incredibly unlikely that more than half of the House elections would still be up in the air by 1/3. In fact, it is pretty good bet that all congressional elections would be completed by 1/3/21. Besides, there is no requirement that the full House be seated in order to choose a Speaker.

I get what you're saying here. Maybe I should have made my point more clear. I expect that if the elections continue on the route they're going now with all the fraud being exposed, many of these races will he contested, including hers. I'm gonna guess she won't be the next speaker.

Thanks for the post.

If she loses enough seats, the President is reelected and the Republicans retain the Senate, she may not be voted Speaker even by her own party.

There are Trump rallies in Beverly Hills, Jews are rallying for him in NYC, black people are MAGA asf and defecting in droves. These things were unthinkable in 2016. Meanwhile, Joe draws eight people and eleven lawn chairs to his events, if he even bothers to come out of his basement groundhog hole. Anyone who believes Joe is up double digits, I have amazing deals on NY bridges for you.

Dems have now jumped the shark, gotten in the car, run the shark over, and backed over it again.

This is what she's going to announce:
quote:

Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) will unveil a bill on Friday with Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-Md.), a constitutional law expert, that would create a commission to determine whether a president is fit for office amid concerns over President Trump becoming sick with COVID-19.

Pelosi's office announced on Thursday that she and Raskin will formally introduce the bill at a news conference on Capitol Hill on Friday morning, hours after she hinted to reporters that "we're going to be talking about the 25th Amendment."

It's expected to reflect legislation that Raskin originally introduced in 2017 that would establish a commission to determine presidential fitness for office as outlined by the Constitution's 25h Amendment, which outlines presidential removal procedures.

The 25th Amendment states that the vice president and a majority of either the president’s Cabinet “or of such other body as Congress may by law provide” can declare that they believe a president cannot fulfill his or her official duties. Raskin's original bill would have established said "body" to be made up of physicians, psychiatrists and former public officials like former presidents or Cabinet secretaries selected by congressional leadership.

Raskin told The Hill last Friday, hours after Trump announced that he had tested positive for COVID-19, that he would be updating his bill.

Its not a real suggestion, DOA in the Senate, and a clear political ploy.

Even in a fantasy world where something like this goes forward, the Vice President would still be required to make and deliver the declaration to Congress that POTUS is unfit.

No, it absolutely does not. Removal can ONLY occur through the impeachment process. Section 3 and 4 of the 25th DO NOT remove a POTUS from office. They strip away his authority, but not the office.

The VPOTUS can only become Acting POTUS under the 25th Amendment unless the POTUS dies, resigns, or is removed via the impeachment process.

The Daily Mail UK seems to have more details...

quote:

Speaker Nancy Pelosi wants to form a commission to evaluate President Donald Trump's mental health and his ability to hold the office of the presidency, she announced on Thursday.

The commission would be part of the process to invoke the 25th amendment and comes amid fears the medication Trump is taking for his COVID treatment is affecting his mental health.

Trump, meanwhile, claimed Pelosi is crazy, should be under observation and accused her of plotting a government coup.

Pelosi, who has voiced concerns about the president's mental state, and Democratic Congressman Jamie Raskin, a constitutional law professor, will hold a press conference Friday to announce legislation forming a Commission on Presidential Capacity to Discharge the Powers and Duties of Office Act.

'The legislation will create the Commission on Presidential Capacity to Discharge the Powers and Duties of Office, the body and process called for in the 25th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution to enable Congress to help ensure effective and uninterrupted leadership in the highest office in the Executive Branch of government,' the lawmakers said in a press release.

The House of Representatives would have to approve the formation of the commission but given Democrats' control of the chamber it should pass. It would also force the 14 Republicans in toss-up re-election contests to go on the record with a vote on the president's mental health.

However, it's unlikely Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell will bring it up in the Senate, which would need to pass it for the commission to be formed.

Pelosi warned reporters on Thursday that she was planning to investigate removing Trump from office. She invoked impeachment procedures against Trump in December. The House approved two articles against him but the Senate cleared him of the charges.

'Come here tomorrow,' she told reporters on Capitol Hill Thursday. 'We're going to be talking about the 25th Amendment.'

Trump weighed in via Twitter, mocking the speaker with one of his favorite insults for her 'crazy': 'Crazy Nancy is the one who should be under observation. They don’t call her Crazy for nothing!,' he wrote.

He also retweeted Republican Congressman Mark Green's suggestion the speaker was orchestrating a coup. 'I wouldn’t put it past @SpeakerPelosi to stage a coup. She has already weaponized impeachment, what’s to keep her from weaponizing the 25th amendment?,' Green wrote.

Pelosi spoke after Trump was interviewed on Fox Business Network in a frenzied almost hour-long interview where he suggested Gold Star families may have infected him with COVID, claimed again he was 'cured,' equivocated over whether he is still on powerful steroids, demanded AG Bill Barr indict Joe Biden and Barack Obama and twice called Kamala Harris a 'monster.'

She indicated Friday's conversation was related to concerns about the steroid Trump is taking. Some doctors have raised concerns about dexamethasone, which can cause insomnia, mania, mood swings, and rage. It has shown promise for treating patients with a severe case of COVID who are getting supplemental oxygen.

It's unbelievable that they would do this. This won't play well with very many people at all and is going to put a lot of people off. Trump is clearly fine.

This smacks of desperation at a time when they're supposedly ahead 15+ points in the polls. This has to be off putting to everyone out there who wants to actually hear some policy goals and the like from the Democrats right now. All they ever do is throw shite at the walls.

False. Repeating the plain text of the Constitution is not splitting hairs.

There is nothing unconstitutional about this proposal...it just isn't serious. Just a campaign piece to keep the focus on Trump's COVID situation.

A campaign ploy doesn't appoint a commission of call me Lt Col Vindman's to say OMB and is crazy. It is a direct action. Whenever they go after Trump in this petty fashion it backfires but this time for sure they will get OMB.

It is well beyond keeping the issue on covid it is batshit.

I wouldn't be surprised to see them draft more articles of impeachment citing the 25th as their justification for doing so. As Pelosi herself has stated, "we can impeach him for anything we want." Of course, it wouldn't be taken seriously in the Senate and it would go nowhere, but this may be their "October surprise." Another fake impeachment. Last time they impeached without alleging a crime, this time it would be an impeachment that cannot possibly succeed.

It would fail spectacularly, but I wouldn't be surprised if they tried to pull it off.
