We're a free market economy for legislators to invest in companies/markets they regulate/tax/give incentives to, but Joe Mainstreet can't keep his business open or employees unjabbed because of a virus less lethal than the annual flu for the majority of his patrons.

Yet many federal employees have to submit financial documentation of the stocks they invest in to make sure things are above board. As an engineer it’s against our code of ethics to make deals based off things we’ve learned through our work (like buying property next to where we find out a new highway is about to be built).
