I don't think rare earth, but other [necessary] minerals such as cobalt from Congo.

Congo has been begging us to make a deal for months. They tired of the Chinese yoke.

The region has been unstable for decades, and conflict in eastern Congo has led to thousands of deaths recently, and about 6 million deaths over the last three decades, according to the Council on Foreign Relations. The conflict has spawned a humanitarian crisis and widespread displacement in eastern DRC.

Roughly 6 million killed in the 30 years. Somewhere around 200,000 dead per year for 30 consecutive years. That’s a staggering number.

You better make them prove the peace for years before you dive off into that shithole.

Great news but why did they go to the White House to sign this agreement? What does the US have to do with their conflict?

because the US, under Trump, mediated and brokered the peace treaty.

If we can help stop the killing, then why not?

Maybe even a "peace dividend", and contribute to peace on Earth.

Dems/Progs don't care about black on black violence.

Thanks. I was confused about how we were roped into it, although I’m truly happy they agreed to end the killing.

quote:

While the deal is seen as a turning point, analysts don’t believe it will quickly end the fighting because the most prominent armed group says it does not apply to it. Many Congolese see it mainly as an opportunity for the U.S. to acquire critical minerals needed for much of the world’s technology after their government reached out to Trump for support in fighting the rebels.

Trump has pushed to gain access to such minerals at a time when the United States and China are actively competing for influence in Africa.

Glad for peace and will pray it perseveres.

Amazing how much peace can be attained when America leads the world towards it rather than instigating war and instability

Prog NPR called this an accord, did not speak of anything other than it happened and moved on to bash Trump about the SCOTUS ruling on birthright BS. Typical and why NPR needs to be defunded and suppressed

Wait, they were at war? I thought all the blacks in Africa sat around the campfire singing Kumbaya every night. I guess I must’ve missed all the warring factions over in Africa.

The whole continent is a shite hole. I work B2B in Africa (sometimes) and I was helping a client bring hydroponic farming to region.

First meeting we found out (you need fridges for fresh veggies), Rwanda has around 10-12 million people.

Yet, they only have 55 thousand refrigerators in whole country. You have to register fridges, thus they know exact amount of fridges.

BYE BYE RWANDA then

That is great and I can’t think of many ways this was facilitated without US tax dollars
On top of that- the dudes wearing ties(and getting the military money) are cease fire but are all the dudes with AK’s cease fire ?

There was an older blonde woman at the meeting. Please tell me that wasn't Paula White.
