That's all that should matter here.

Exactly. And it's paying off for Biden: a new CNN poll shows the president is GAINING IN THE POLLS, now at 46% approval nationwide--that's up 5 pts since October, before the midterms

I do not believe that. This trade was very bad and blacks and dems care as much as we do for Grinner.

I don't know. It just says December 2022.

Dude is neither hero nor upstanding citizen.
And somehow still a better pick to free than Griner.
Which is wild.

Here's a poll conducted TODAY by Rasmussen:
The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll, sponsored by Miranda Devine's LAPTOP FROM HELL for Friday shows that 50% of Likely U.S. Voters approve of President Biden’s job performance. Forty-nine percent (49%) disapprove.
The Griner trade is apparently popular round the nation. I don't think it's that awesome, but apparently a lot of "in the know" Americans are ecstatic!

I would not believe it. I made 3 stops after dropping off my kids this morning and 3 acquaintances whom I never talk politics to asked me what I thought and what they thought. 2 older women and 1 guy. They know I’m political but we never discuss and they never interact with my social media.
Ppl are pretty pissed.

I don't think the impact would be fully shown in the daily tracking poll just yet:
quote:
Daily tracking results are collected via telephone surveys of 500 likely voters per night and reported on a three-day rolling average basis. To reach those who have abandoned traditional landline telephones, Rasmussen Reports uses an online survey tool to interview randomly selected participants from a demographically diverse panel. The margin of sampling error for the full sample of 1,500 Likely Voters is +/- 2.5 percentage points with a 95% level of confidence.

I don’t believe that number but I’d say it’s more due to falling gas prices, which will likely be temporary.

I don't recall you ever posting in support of anything that I submitted. Is my memory shot?

I expected that people (mostly Dems) would attempt to bash the dude to justify it not trying harder to get him out. And it’s repulsive.
Sounds like he is a royal POS. Ok. I won’t defend him as I don’t know the details like some of you in the military. Yet it also sounds like he got what was coming to him if he was dishonorably discharged and has been jailed in Russia for 8 years and counting. Is that enough for you? Wanna keep piling it on? Go ahead.
So my message is shame on anyone who feels the need to smear this guy over old stuff while he is just trying to get out of that Russian shithole and home to see his elderly parents. Congrats to Griner. Brandon cannot help that he is incompetent. And based on what we know, Trump was probably given bad advice from his generals based on what we know now.

I dont know if there has been a thread started to discuss this person specifically or not. If so and I missed it, well I dont care and GFY. Let's be clear about one thing - Paul Whelan was a piece of shite Marine who was successfully court-martialed for larceny and he received a bad-conduct discharge. Further, he was an admin clerk who also got caught trying to do his own evaluation. This dude is not a war hero, he is not someone who served honorably, and from my perspective, he has forfeited the right to be called a US Marine.
I do firmly believe that he is wrongly imprisoned in Russia. I also believe that the Griner deal was an absolute abortion of a political stunt designed solely for the administration to earn social favor points and snub their noses at conservatives. I believe that as with ANY American wrongly imprisoned in Russia, our government should be fighting to get Whelan home because he doesnt deserve to be where he is.
But to CONSTANTLY hear this guy referenced as the "US Marine" left there over Griner is pretty disgusting to me. I've even seen multiple conservative media outlets call him a "retired Marine" and a "war hero". frick that. This guy is a total piece of shite, and doesnt deserve to be referenced as a Marine, especially for political clout.
Well said.

We've often disagreed for sure. But I'm generally in agreement with you on much of your strict constitutional interpretations. And you actually schooled me pretty well the other day on the "ordnance" definition as the founders saw it and what it translates to today.

My take on the whole ordeal. We got the bad end of this trade…and I’m not saying that because Whelan wasn’t part of it. Griner and Whelan were both arrested and sentenced to longer terms than any reasonable person would believe they should have been.
I don’t have a problem with her being freed. I wouldn’t have had a problem with him being freed, nor would I have had a problem with BOTH being freed. My problem lies in the dangerous person we sent back to Russia. If I’m Zelensky right now, I’m deeply troubled by this. One of the world’s most notorious arms dealers is back in the game and in Putin’s corner.
I wouldn’t have even agreed to a 2 for 1 swap knowing it was the Merchant of Death I would be releasing.

From David Whelan

“Former president Trump appears to have mentioned my brother #PaulWhelan’s wrongful detention more in the last 24 hours than he did in the 2 years of his presidency when Paul was held hostage by Russia (zero). I don’t suggest he cares any more now than he did then (zero).
