FWIW, I have no problem with Paramount promoting the latest reiteration of the franchise.

It started with a flag. Instead of charging the attorney for stealing flags they took the flags away.

They took the books away. They took the movies away. They took the statues away. They want to take my memory.

Indeed. It's a douche move. But he's right, they'll never be able to erase Shatner's Kirk.
I rewatched The Undiscovered Country last week. Still holds up.

I liked Strange New Worlds, it has the best version of Nurse Chapel yet.

The success of that series is due to the popularity of the three white male leads.

And beloved female leads as secondary characters: NUMBER ONE, Nurse Chapel and Uhura. Nichelle Nichols’ Uhura is indeed hailed as a breakthrough character because she was black and female at a time when much of network television was lily-white.

Certainly that is noteworthy. Yet what made Uhura an enduring icon — and what indeed made all the recurring characters on TOS such enduring icons — is that Nichelle Nichols was given a well-written character to portray.

As a kid growing up in the 1970s and watching Star Trek in syndication, that Uhura was a black female was not what made her a fan favorite. No, what made Uhura a beloved icon was the fact she was a complex and multidimensional character ably portrayed by a talented (and beautiful!) actress.

That is what indeed separates well written and complex drama from woke schlock. In woke schlock, the primary concern is to create a “Mary Jane” who simply marks “diversity” checkboxes: female, ethnic, homosexual, transgender, etc….

Certainly Gene Roddenberry’s vision for ST included a diverse and multi-ethnic cast. Yet that concern was secondary to employing talented writers who could create believable and multifaceted characters who a wide audience could embrace.

Disney, Anheuser-Busch, Paramount, et al can all embrace Wokesim, but they will pay as their clientele are now closely observing and understand what the basic ideology of the which these action are. A Pagan and Demonic ideology as the historical record clearly validates.

"By their fruits ye will know them". They say the 'road to hell is paved with good intentions". Very true. "There is way that seemeth right unto Man, but the end thereof is destruction". Egalitarian Ideology as expressed in the DEI narrative, is that 'way', IMO. "The blind lead the blind"...and into the ditch they go. The 'ditch' in our case, being the dysfunction and collapse of the System of the which we ALL depend on for sustenance.

Stap in. Get Jesus if that is an option. Otherwise, good luck.

All the more reason why owning books and physical media is essential.

I thought she played a black hole. A gap tooth in the space-time continuum.

INSP shows TOS every weeknight plus Sunday at 8 pm eastern if you want to see the GOAT Federation captain.

Live long and prosper James Tiberius Kirk.

It is a valid point and brings to mind Montag’s memorization of the “Book of Ecclesiastes” in Fahrenheit 451.

Besides a fixation on Bill Maher, this was one of the main mantras of OMLandshark.

OML once commented that he maintained a hard, physical copy of every episode of The Simpsons so that when the Apocalypse occurred, he would have an original version of the series that could not be digitally retrofitted in cloud storage to conform to woke ideology by future owners of the property.

I certainly admired his devotion but when prepping for the end of civilization, securing an unadulterated box set of “The Simpsons” would be far down my list on Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs!

OLM was certainly a unique bird. Whatever happened to him?

Acting — like all art — certainly is a subjective taste. And perhaps this is generational difference of opinion.

Yet I dare say yours is an outlying view. Along with Leonard Nimoy’s Spock, Shatner’s portrayal of Kirk is widely recognized by many as one of the most memorable characters in the entire franchise:

Every Kirk actor in the ‘Star Trek’ universe, ranked One of the greatest Captains in 'Trek' history has been played by three actors across six decades – but who gave the definitive performance?

Different writers of the original Star Trek seemed to have different interpretations of Kirk. Some wrote him as impulsive and bullish, others wrote him as quiet and contemplative. Some wrote him as moody and serious, others jovial and relaxed. But Shatner was able to successfully keep the character feeling broadly consistent through all these plots thanks to the incredible charisma he brought to the role.

Though Shatner’s occasional perceived over-acting has become a joke among fans, his intensity and his unusual line deliveries were crucial in making the character so memorable and Star Trek such a success.

Shatner’s own sense of humor began to seep into the character, and Kirk became far more upbeat and jokey in the show’s second season, which is the way the character is often remembered.

Star Trek: Every Actor Who Played James T. Kirk, Ranked….

The original Captain Kirk was played by William Shatner in the 1966 TV series. Gene Roddenberry needed a new captain to helm the Enterprise after Jeffrey Hunter stepped down as Christopher Pike. This is when the character of James Kirk was born and played by Shatner for three years until the series was canceled. The show, however, was very popular among audiences and was brought back for an animated series and six movies, with Shatner still voicing the infamous captain.

Shatner's Kirk oozed swagger and was the definition of a hero that had a unique approach to the rule book than the stereotypical captains of the '90s. James Kirk is a space cowboy who makes it his mission to make a name for himself in the space frontier. Shatner was the perfect person to embody this with his charisma and machismo making him the best Captain Kirk the Star Trek universe will ever see.

Star Trek: All 5 Captain Kirk actors ranked from worst to best

William Shatner's name is almost inseparable from the Captain James T. Kirk character and it's easy to see why. His theatrical acting style made him a perfect fit for Star Trek and he truly embodied the character in Star Trek: The Original Series.

Although Shatner's Kirk has been teased for being overly dramatic, it's that fact alone that made the character so unforgettable and contributed to Star Trek's success. Shatner gave different character interpretations excellently, keeping Kirk's flavor consistent throughout his time with the role. His distinct portrayal continued into the Star Trek films with a more grounded and mature version of Kirk. His best film performance was arguably in Wrath of Khan, where he played a softer, older Kirk, who was also a bit less confident than his younger self.

Through extensive screen time in both TV and films, Shatner has indelibly etched himself into the character of James T. Kirk, with his version becoming the quintessential interpretation of the role.

Hammer to nail.

Yet like you and VON indicate above, it is seen as what it is and recognized as little more than a middle finger to devoted male fans of TOS who are boomers and generation Xers.

Yet the problem for the current generation of woke writers in the ST franchise is this: TOS is largely embraced by fans across all generations.

So while Stacy Abrams’ cameo has been reduced to little more than bad punchline to a throwaway joke* and will be largely forgotten in years to come, ST TOS will continue to maintain fans among future generations.

* “A UN Commission On World Hunger has issued a scientific study that finds that if Stacey Abrams would simply cut down to a 5000 calorie a day diet, she could cure world hunger in 6 months.”

I am back to admit I was incorrect. I was going off of only the picture in this topic, but after actually reading the article it does appear they are ignoring Shatners character on purpose. Thanks for all the downvotes to let me know I’m a dummy :)

Shat is the GOAT, a true red blooded American male stereo type, from the before times. (Despite being Canadian) Too toxic for today's snowflakes.

It wasn’t just Kirk. Roddenberry created a cast of characters that had their own nuanced version of masculinity. It’s jarring how the portrayal of men has changed since then.

Everything in Hollywood, from the actors to the directors, producers, extras, cinematographers, assistants, financiers, marketing, etc.

EVERYTHING, and I mean EVERYTHING...is slathered in DEI mandates.

You can see a black woman in the center of the poster. The most anti-star trek fan presentation possible.

Stop giving these idiots money because they have no intention of changing.
