The Greeks and the Danes (?) were among the first to outlaw slavery, but the British, while late to the party, were the most efficacious at eradicating it.

Everyone in this thread is missing the point. It’s not about history, the facts or the contradictions. None of the race peddlers are interested in the truth. Perception is reality.
It’s about using this as a tool to mobilize ignorant people to support them so they gain money and power at their expense. These people are the modern day version of the Africans that sold their people into slavery to begin with. The progressive party is their plantation. The get free food and housing as long as they do their job.

What is antisemitic about pointing out who owned the boats?
The hypocrisy is amazing when considering percentage wise, some of the largest slave owners were in fact Jewish and the largest transporters of slaves were Jewish as well.
Odd how the "anti-semitic" card is played even when the (above) facts and truth are slammed on the table.

They use claims of “us whites are to blame for…insert what ever anti white trope is popular at the time”.
Absolutely true.
Whitey has been THE scapegoat for what was the most part historically a Jewish-run mercantile-naval operation for centuries. As wealthy merchants they facilitated major "slavery" institutions in early America (especially in the South) as well as in S. America, the Caribbean, and Europe.

Who captured the slaves? Sold them ?
It was a convenient way for tribal chiefs to get rid of their rivals and trouble makers and make a profit at the same time.

In any event, there is no defense for the buying and selling of human beings like chattel. It was a horrendous institution in America...
You might be shocked by this, but southern and eastern Europeans have been victims of slavery for millennia, deep into the 19th century.
The Phoenicians (Jews), Romans, Greeks, Turks, Moors ALL took and sold slaves as merchandise and commodities. Our human past is a complete sordid mess.
As an "institution" in America, slavery was facilitated and used mostly by the very wealthy. Because, again -- people were chattel, mere human merchandise. And no slavery was NOT a "Christian" thing by and large at all.

Slavery ended in Latin America not out of the goodness of the hearts of the owners. They just discovered that it was cheaper to hire seasonal labor when needed and not have to provide slaves housing, food and medical care all year long. People who were slaves were valuable property that had to be maintained even when there was little work that needed to be done.

FROM LIFE, Taken at Baton Rouge, La. April 2nd, 1863.

Colonel,
I have found a large number of the four hundred contrabands examined by me to be as badly lacerated as the specimen represented in the inclosed photograph.

Read Thomas Sowell. Anything he ever wrote on the subject.

True. Color was never a factor, in and of itself. People who were enslaved were by and large those who were vulnerable, regardless of their color.
Color mattered in the US because blacks stood out. They couldn't easily integrate and were always easily identifiable.

People act like whites in America just marched into the jungle and captured the slaves.
As Thomas Sowell put it, had slave traders marched onto the African continent they'd have been much more likely to catch malaria than to catch a slave.

Africans and Arabs perfected the slave trade. They had it down to a science.

Why not?

Fun fact...
The Southern US was the only example in the history of the transatlantic slave period where the slave population INCREASED because of natural population growth after importation ended.
Why did the Irish dig canals in NOLA and not slaves?

quote:No, they do not.
Many act as if slavery was a uniquely American crime.
The "problem" is not that American slavery was somehow unique in the history of the world. The "problem" is the disconnect between our reliance upon the institution and the grand (and unique) ideals about "equality" espoused in our founding documents.
Like it or not, there is a certain level of hypocrisy there. And I say this as someone who sees Jefferson as our greatest POTUS.

Because those worthless micks were just that.
Local slave owners didn't want to risk the slaves they had paid a shitton of specie for.

The slave owner with the most slaves in Louisiana was a black man.
Yes, there were Black slaveowners throughout the South, including in Louisiana. The largest in Louisiana was Antoine Dubuclet, who owned slightly more than 100 slaves. The Richards family (combined) owned about 150.
By comparison, the largest slaveholder in Louisiana was a White man named Stephen Duncan, who owned approximately 2200 slaves.

Slavery isn't a color thing it never has been.
Colonists throughout the hemisphere needed labor, and they were willing to indenture (and eventually to enslave) anyone who could provide that labor.
They only began importing Blacks from Africa after European diseases had killed the indigenous ("Native American") forced labor pool.

Ol' Dunc' owned plantations in Louisiana and Mississippi. I stand by my factual statement.

Slavery existed before the documents, also, the original documents didn't speak well of slavery. *yawn*
