A CCP is required in Texas to open carry.

I'll patronize a business that bans people who openly exercise their second amendment rights when those same businesses force gay couples to take off their wedding rings.

That's sorta the point I was making. A business should be able to do that, or tell gays or straights or whoever they feel like to shop elsewhere. But they can't.

The left is never, ever going to re-think protected classes until their ox starts getting gored.

We were all waiting for a thief to chime in with an uninformed shitty opinion.

Apparently none of you have been to Cullman or Walker counties in the great state of Alabama. See it all of the time. Not sure how many are doing it for attention or just exercising their Constitutional right. Doesn't bother me. Also, going through Atlanta on my way to SC last weekend and a black guy riding a rice rocket was strapped. Could have been an off-duty cop or detective, but didn't freak me out. I carry concealed for the very fact that someone posted above, concealment from perps. I would much rather be the one getting the drop on a perp than him targeting me.

But, to each his own.

Depends on where you are. I lived in north Georgia for a few years and it was very common there.

It doesn’t bother me either, I just don’t see it. I’m also not going to pretend I’m Carnac and start assuming I know why somebody chooses to do it.

And is it even necessary?

There are things you do the I would find completely unnecessary, and vice-versa. We don't get to decide what is necessary for each other.

What’s the point?

There are competing schools of thought on open and concealed carry. The fact that your weapon is more accessible is indisputable. The deterrent vs. making a target of yourself debate will never end. I will say, those who commit gun crimes seem to be the ultimate cowards. I think the overwhelming majority will move along, rather than commit their crimes, if they think there is a possibility of them coming under someone else's gun.

I’ve always lived in the south, but I have only seen a hand full of open carriers in my 40+ years.

Are you counting the police you have seen? And how many crimes have you seen committed in the presence of law enforcement?

quote:

I just can’t hardly GAF about these businesses asking people not to walk around with their gun. Makes sense to me and seems well within their rights.

Absolutely agree, and any carriers who disregard the rights of private business owners are doing more harm than good. Our right to keep and bear does not override the right of the business owner to not have them on their property.

Personally, I do not trade with businesses who do not respect my God-given right to self defense. Virtually all of the businesses that require people to be defenseless, provide no security to their patrons whatsoever. So the people who abide by their rules, or the law in the case of gun free zones, are at the mercy of those who are willing to break the law. No thanks. I'll find somewhere else to shop, to eat, whatever.

I have opened carried in the past. I think this is a great option to have if you feel the situation requires it.

Nothing wrong with open carry.

The you have a gun so you will be first shot argument.

Thanks for caring about the open carry folks, but I think they are just fine.

Same, in Texas...always a pistol on the belt, nothing more.

It's their business...along the lines of "no shoes, no shirt, no service".

Thieves don't like to be pointed out. I understand that.

All you have to do is stop stealing. Simple remedy.

Have you ever trained on how to maintain possession of that weapon when someone takes you to the ground and your struggling like your life depends on it (because it does)?

It's really not the brightest thing to carry your weapon out in the open.

I live in Texas, and have never seen anyone carrying openly. You're asking for trouble from a nut.

If someone is a nut, would you prefer they attack a defenseless victim, or someone with the means to defend themselves from the attack?

I think seeing someone open carry really only triggers the anti-gun nuts. I see it fairly often here in God's country, and I appreciate it.

Nope.

I am just happy that if I decide to strap it on while getting gas for example, I have the right by law to do so. That simple.

It's pretty common in AZ. I'm pretty apathetic about it.
