re: Open carry - how common is it?

I've seen it lots of times here in Virginia. Doesn't bother me and never has. I would also think, that perhaps, some people open carry because they don't have a CC permit. Just my opinion.

Agree. In fact I've revised my opinion about the guy who was arrested at Walmart for doing nothing wrong besides open carrying. My normalcy bias kicked in. He should have been left alone.

I work at Walmart. I see an open carry maybe once a week. Doesn’t bother me. If anything it makes me feel safer.

Its pretty rare. My wife freaked out the other week because it was the first time she had ever seen it before and wanted to leave immediately because a few baws had pistols holstered on their waist.

It's an easy way for some of these big companies to look good in the libtard, proggy eyes by "banning" some sort of gun issue when in reality it is so rare it has no impact on anything.

I open carry nearly every day. I've never thought that I was at a disadvantage, I've never had my firearm taken from me, and I've never been executed while waiting in line at the grocery store.
Most people don't even notice, and when they do, my interactions have all been positive. I carry concealed as well, when necessary. I think the mentality of "what's the point" is harmful. Sounds a lot like "I'm a big 2A guy, but..."

I’m not a fan open carry for the reasons you stated. However I feel as though banning open carry just opens the door for “less than concealed” arrest and tickets. Ex. Carrying concealed but the gun becomes visible for a moment and you are “illegally open carrying”.
You make a decent point about "printing" or brandishing laws .... which is why those of us who carry concealed should carry concealed. I go out of my way to tailor my carry piece to the season, the time of year, what I am wearing and where I am going.
Best way to carry concealed, especially during the hot summer months IMHO, is with a flat pistol inside the waist band holster in the small of the back and the shirt untucked. I carry a S&W Shield 9mm in the summer time with an extra mag in my pocket and a SIG P226 in 9mm during the fall and a SIG P229 DAK SAS in SIG 357 in the winter.
Open carry states are awesome but unfortunately they are going to have to fight some battles here in the near future. The only way to fight it is going to be for those state AGs to sue those big corporations over violating state's rights of their citizenry. Force Walmart, et al, to close shop in Texas or change their mandate. To do that it would require ALL businesses in the country to allow all forms of legal permitted carry in every situation including banks, bars, etc.

Good points in your post. Another "I wonder if.." moment I've often entertained is the legal liability of any business that prohibits legal carrying of firearms on their premises, in the event of a terrorist or shooter taking advantage of defenseless customers because the company failed to provide adequate security after requiring their customers to be unarmed. Would you have a solid legal case against that company?

I actually manage a pet store in Livingston Parish, and I’ve seen at least 5 people, including an idiotic acting 19 yr old, openly carry guns. I don’t know what they’re afraid of, a chihuahua nipping at their ankles?

I’ve always lived in the south, but I have only seen a hand full of open carriers in my 40+ years.
I see it a few times a year in LA. It's not that common.

I'm pretty sure there have already been some cases brought on just that question.
Lemme look ....
I couldn't find the two cases but I'm sure they were brought, one in California and one in New Jersey.
Pretty sure both were knocked down in circuit courts, one in the Ninth and the other in NYC's lower .... the Third I think it was.
There have been some brought in churches as well. Those were settled by the church governing bodies if I remember correctly. They relented in both cases I believe.
But I know I remember reading in American Rifleman about a case brought by someone somewhere where his life, or the life of his family, was placed in danger by him not being allowed to carry somewhere, and I'll keep looking for that until I find it.

Maybe they open carry because they want to have a gun in case they need it and dont give a shite if you see it or not.
Why care about how someone else chooses to carry their firearm.
Why care about how someone else chooses to carry their firearm.

That has been reaction too, surprise. Not that someone is carrying but seeing open carry is pretty rare here.

The issue I have with the concealed carry license is this...
...we've focused all our attention on preventing government from enacting a gun registry, meanwhile we've voluntarily signed up for a gun owner registry.
Unlicensed constitutional open and concealed carry should be the law of all 50 states under the second amendment.
Despite this, I do have a CCL.

Just now saw your post. I hope you can find that case. I believe that if these companies could be sued successfully for creating a defenseless environment, a lot of things would change for the better.

Exactly why I resisted a CCP for years.

.....not common enough IMO.

Open carry in this day and age freaks people out. I am opposed to open carry and believe that carrying guns into stores, ball games, concerts should be illegal. Our gun culture is killing America. I believe in the second amendment, but we have alter some laws with background checks and security to attempt to stop mass murders.
