re: On this day 33 years ago: The Ruby Ridge standoff began

I was in my 2nd year of law school at Gonzaga (Spokane) at the time and my best friend and I drove to Ruby Ridge and hung out at the scene while the feds kept everything on lock down.
We were there the day before Bo Gritz showed up and helped negotiate the surrender.
One of the most surreal experiences of my life and even though going there with my friend was more of a "let's go see what we can find" stupid move, I'm really glad I went, because looking back on that experience, it really set the tone for so many things that came later.

Absolutely horrible what they did to that man and his family. Everyone involved deserved lifetime prison sentences.
They murdered a woman and child.

i hate McVay, but i understand why he felt he had to go to war with the government. but you dont blow up a building full of innocent people who had nothing to do with those choices
but make no mistake about it, under clinton...the atf adn fbi was at war with the american public.
You might want to do some more research on that whole OKC bombing. There are a lot of weird things that happened before the bomb went off.

Watching this LIVE on MSNBC---I remember trusting every word the media, FBI said. I remember deep down wondering.... why such a spectacle for one man and his family homeschooling in a cabin in the woods he built.
It was uncalled for to shoot his wife while holding her baby. His young son was shot and killed as well. I remember thinking this man must be REAL REAL bad.
Randy Weaver didn't do anything to warrant his families deaths. The FBI could have cuffed him in town. They wanted a show under the evil Clinton's and Psycho Janet Reno.

And we did nothing and never will. We all know how this thing ends.

Even in 1992, that was an atrociously low settlement amount.
It's the fed. Break them and make them pay BILLIONS, which is exactly what I hope and pray that Ashli Babbit's widower does.
You don't break them, they go on to pull a Waco. Waco didn't break them either. So what's next? Whatever it is, it's coming.
Most importantly, this shows exactly how powerful that prepared citizens can be. They withstood trained snipers and paramilitary eff bee eye surrounding and assault for days and then still won in court.
You want to know why the Establishment federal government wants to revoke your Second Amendment protections? Randy Weaver, and people not entirely dissimilar to him. That's why. They were few in number, and kept the most well trained and funded law enforcement agency on Earth at bay.

Read "Every Knee Shall Bow"
It'll piss you off
Weaver was setup and forced to cut off the shotguns

Remember this when you find yourselves advocating for more Federal power or supporting Federal overreach. What power they gain they will never give back, and the will eventually abuse it.

Here's some stuff I remember from being there:
The main fed barricade was at the intersection of 2 logging roads. The barricade was at the entrance to the road that went up the hill to Weaver's cabin. That is where my friend and I hung out.
The road that it intersected with was not blocked off or obstructed in any way, so you could literally drive right up to the fed barricade, which is what a LOT of people did, most of whom were Weaver supporters.
There was also a contingent of Aryan Nation guys that would speed up the road in the backs of pick-ups, hurling insults at the feds, and then speed back down the road. This went on continuously. I only bring this up because had those guys just made a right turn, they could have mowed down the feds. That's how lax the security situation was at the main barricade.
If this sort of thing happened today, you wouldn't be able to get within miles of the roads leading to the event.
After my friend and I left the scene, we stopped to eat at a diner that was just down the road. It was later in the evening, and when we walked in we sat next to a table of about 7-8 people that looked to be in their mid/late 20's, early 30s.
We figured out that they were stringers from AP, UPI, Reuters, (etc.) and they were all there eating and waiting to use the one pay phone to file their nightly reports. (This was pre-reliable cell service). It was a party atmosphere, and they were all bouncing their reports off of each other to figure out what to say.
Very surreal experience.

I don't know how accurate the particular scene was but I'm reminded of Chris Kyle agonizing over shooting a kid with an RPG, or reading an account of a Delta guy during Somalia agonizing over whether to shoot a woman who kept acting as a spotter. They were protecting lives and it's still an incredibly tough decision.
I cannot imagine having an unarmed woman and child in the cross hairs and pulling the trigger, when nobody around you is in any danger whatsoever. That's sick. Hell, I've let deer walk because I just didn't feel like watching one die that day.

There’s a non-zero chance that Horiuchi was an instigator at Waco as well.
What a huge piece of shite. I hope he lives in infamy and shame.

Lots of spin in favor of the govt in the that post. It is worse than this sounds if you know nothing about the incident.

There was an fbi agent named Danny coulson. He was involved in ruby ridge,Waco, and okc bombing. What are the chances. I remember at Waco, the front door of the compound was a double door metal door. Before the fbi handover of the crime scene to the texas rangers there was a uhaul truck on the scene. One of the metal front doors (perhaps the one with bullet holes) was never recovered. Can't trust fbi in any investigation.
