So you are saying that teaching is comparable to a "real" job after all?

So all kids that get free lunches are automatically not capable of learning and will never amount to shite?

We were quite poor when I first started school and I qualified for free meals. Now I own multiple businesses and do pretty well for myself. So using a blanket statement like "kids that get free lunches will never amount to anything" is bull shite.

His point was they are mooching off the system. How is it fair that some people kids eat free while other's don't? It's not fair.

if you personally want to go start a fund for starving kids to eat for free at lunch, that should be your choice. But free shite for anybody shouldn't go through the government.

The government is too big already and needs to be limited.

Oklahoma (and everywhere else) would save a lot of money if they didn't have to teach a gaggle of illegals in their native Spanish language.

Special Ed costs are exorbitant, too.

We need the Supreme Court to overturn its 1980s decision that illegals have a right to a free American public school education. It's our only hope.

I bet Oklahoma could pay 45k a year with no pension and still fill every teacher role. Teachers are paid what they are worth and their skillsets don't call for much over 40k. If they want to make more money, start a summer business or work during the summer months.

But yeah, everywhere else is a mess. Every other school district in our county is about to strike. Government gridlock and budget crisis isn't just in D.C...

I was listening to a radio porogam last night and a Representative of Kentucky came on. He said the state is already spending 75 cents on every dollar for either education of governent pensions. He also said teachers in his state are the second highest paid in the entire country if you factor in the benefits.
He closed by saying that retiring teachers in the very first year of their retirement receive more per year in pension payments than their last full years pay.
Yet, the teachers are about to strike.

Most of the people I overhear out in public are supporting the raises for teachers. I am shocked because I thought more would be against it. Oh well. I won't be giving any of my money towards the I raise, so I hope these idiots enjoy paying for the teachers getting a 6,000+ raise. The worst part is, the brunt will be paid for by the poor...$1 more per pack of cigarettes or can of dip? Haha.

Teachers suddenly engaging in a rash of strikes in 2018 is fairly humorous to me because they don't seem aware that they are very close to becoming obsolete.

They're basically in line right behind burger flippers to be replaced by technology.

Most teachers I know work far in excess than 40 hours a week when you factor in preparation of lesson plans, grading and other tasks. They are not just regurgitators of information. They also function as quasi psychologists and social workers for these kids and it does not matter the scoio economic situation of the kids. A lot of teachers reach into their own pockets for supplies for the kids .

Why do you laugh?

Do you now comprehend that the need for the number of teachers we have now is going to crater going forward due to technology?

How do the citizens of the state not know that any raises will result in higher taxes on them?

Lots of people besides teachers have to do work after hours as well.

Shawn Sheehan, the 2016 Oklahoma Teacher of the Year, said his family couldn’t afford to stay in Oklahoma and raise their now 17 month old daughter.

“We’re going to stop hoping and praying that Oklahoma will do the right thing for its educators and for its citizens,” said Sheehan. “We took matters into our own hands and we made the move south.”

quote:

Sheehan and his wife, Kaysi, who is also a teacher say their household income increased by around $40,000 after taking jobs in Lewisville I.S.D. in 2017. Now, finishing out their first school year in Lewisville, the couple says it’s tough to see their fellow educators back in Oklahoma struggling.

quote:

“There would be days in Oklahoma when I was up standing in front of the kids and all I was really thinking was do I have enough money in my bank account to get groceries after school today before we get paid again?” said Kaysi Sheehan. “Teachers can’t teach if their basic needs aren’t being met.”

So why wasn't the state of Oklahoma giving raises when things were good during the oil boom of 2010-2014 when drilling and production was rocking? They could not afford it then? It was ten years ago that they got a raise before this one.

I don't think they should be striking due to the fact that they got something, but you seem averse to them getting anything
