You must live in a little shithole town when there isnt a cost of living. Here in OKC unless a teacher is married they either live in some cheap apartments or in a neighborhood that you wouldn't drive through.
They are asking for 10k and they passed a bill to give $6100. 10k isn't enough for what they deal with.

Not the problem in ok.
Saleries slashed teachers leave is one. Reducing the week from 5 to 4 days. That's a clue to a state budget issue. #2.

Interested to see how much entitlements were slashed.

Shut down the public school system. Problem solved.

Not that I think teachers have a demanding job or deserve big salaries....but why must teacher, police, firemen salaries be cut before government entitlements to meet a budget. Hell entitlements should be the first thing to be cut when the budget needs slimming but it is always the last.

False. Less than 1% of public school staff is central office administrators. What’s your next plan of attack. Add in principals and assistant principals and you get to just under 3.5%.

Stop free lunches and the summer feeding program. End the resource officer program.

So those families on food stamps aren’t buying food with their food stamps.

How about when the communist wanna-be Social warrior brainwashing progressive fricks stop leading student walkouts and pushing Democratic dogma, then we can talk about a raise. I pulled my kid out and he’s being homeschooled because of these union Marxist pieces of shite

that's what aggravates me about republicans. not all social/welfare programs are bad. There are plenty that need to be cut/altered but free meals for kids isn't one of them.

Oklahoma teacher salaries may be on be low side, but OK is also a cheap place to live. Those numbers are not adjusted for COL

quote:Well we specifically discussing the education budget. I’m also perfectly okay with cutting other welfare programs before cutting schools. But let’s be honest, the kids that are there because they need a free lunch are sent there by there single mom parents who use the school system as a babysitter. They aren’t going anywhere and they frick up the education of kids who actually want and are capable of learning. Life isn’t fair

So all kids that get free lunches are automatically not capable of learning and will never amount to shite?
We were quite poor when I first started school and I qualified for free meals. Now I own multiple businesses and do pretty well for myself. So using a blanket statement like "kids that get free lunches will never amount to anything" is bullshite.

People perform to our expectations of them. We feed their kids. They expect us to.

I get so tired of this teacher crap. It never ends.
Right off the top they work 9 months a year.
2 1/2 weeks off for Christmas, a week off for Thanksgiving, a week off for winter break, whatever that new thing is, a week off for Spring Break, all the government holidays off, random days off like teacher education days, etc. They also have VACATION! Three weeks a year per average.
They draw a yearly salary and probably work 6 months and bitch continuously.
Those that have done the math have figured that the average teacher that has the time off as dictated by the school calendar and takes all of their available paid leave works 174 days a year.

they aren't paid for the summers technically. Their pay is just stretched out so the get monthly paychecks.
