" Oklahoma now has the highest incarceration rate in the United States, unseating Louisiana as No. 1 in the country, according to a new study. Oklahoma's incarceration rate is 1,079 per 100,000 people, with Louisiana at 1,052 per 100,000."

And they are doing this with a much smaller Black population.

For context, the US average is 655, the highest in the world. The next closest country is El Salvador at 610.

I live on my farm in Oklahoma now full time that I've had for several years. I moved from California about 6 months ago. I would guess drug related crimes and property crimes like theft, burglary, etc.

Meth. Plain and simple. In the early 90s rural parts of southern Oklahoma were ground zero for the meth epidemic that eventually spread across the rest of the US. We still haven’t recovered.

Out of curiosity...I wonder what the US rate would be if we didn’t count all of the illegals in our prisons?

Or if we stoped keeping people alive for 50 years just for them to die In prison.

Put a bullet in their head and be done with it.

It would obviously go down, but not by much. They simply don't make up a large percentage of the total prison population:

ETA: They explode out the chart substantially in other graphics if you are interested: LINK

That's where my farm is. While i was living in California, some tweaker meth heads tried to steal my tractor, a trailer and some other equipment. Luckily the only thing they could make it off with was a 3 point post hole digger.

I've read that 20-30% of California's prison population are illegals.

A part of it is historic. Look on old maps. Before it was "Indian Territory", Oklahoma was "Outlaw Territory".

Outlaws passed on their "values" to their offspring who in turn passed down to theirs, and here we are today. After all, if the 1st generation has no morals, values, and ethics they cannot somehow miraculously educate/instill their kids with them. The same goes on and on. Basically what we see in urban environments, just applied to a larger geography.

Quite possible. I honestly have no idea.

But as far as national numbers, we're talking 2% or less.

I don't know, man. I live in Oklahoma. My 19 year old stepson got busted earlier this year for possession of a stolen pistol (affc)... for the third time. All three times there were drug charges included. And one time involved a kidnapping charge. He's sat in county jail 7 total months. Never seen a prison and probably won't as long as he doesn't actually attempt to or kill someone.

I keep hearing about our high incarceration rates, and those people must be doing some really bad shite because all the stuff my stepson and his buddies have done, and they're all roaming free.

And for those that said

meth
that's definitely the number one issue here. I mean, by far. It's a fricking catastrophe.
