This guy does an excellent job of collecting credible news reports as they happen (so far, it looks like Operation Freedom will not include escorting any ships...chiefly information sharing about safest lanes to use).
UPDATE: Centcom announcement after President Trump’s post, seems more specific about use of active US military force to open the Strait.

How is Iran blocking the Strait with these tiny boats? Shouldn't drones and helicopters destroy these boats with ease?

They have generated enough fear that the owners and insurance companies don't want to risk running the strait.
Tomorrow will be interesting and the USN will probably divest the IRGC of any notions that they have of interfering with maritime traffic.
