The issue is that the Iranians do likely believe they are winning, as winning to them means the survival of the regime. The leadership lost, the destruction of assets, and everything else is secondary to the survival of the regime. The intercession of Pakistan muddies the water, as Pakistan has signed a defense agreement with the KSA and is also historically been used by the US when their interests coincide. If Pakistan intervened to prevent a wider regional war which the Iranians likely would have sought had Trump gone through with his threat so as to prevent specific language in their defense pact with the KSA from triggering, it might be the case that how each side views this conflict is still far apart, and thus it is likely that these negotiations will not be fruitful at the moment.

Trump will also guarantee that they will get 75 virgins instead of only 72 if they show themselves.

Holy crap, these whole "negotiations" are just a huge propaganda campaign by Iran. They can't end and the bombing can't resume soon enough for me.

Xi: Kim, did you see what America did to Iran?

Kim: Duh, why do you think I’m trying to improve relations with Donald.

Xi: I’m kind of sucking up a little myself. We need to discuss our relationship moving forward. You up for some Dim-sum and a chat?

Is there not some alternative means to destroying mines and/or clearing an area?

I don't understand why some heavy bunker busting ordinance wouldn't create enough of a positive pressure shockwave and then cavitation to destroy mines underwater in a pretty large area? Similar to how depth charges destroy submarines and ships with the same explosion then cavitation

Locating the mines is the difficult part. Physically removing them can be challenging but isn’t the main challenge.

Part of the issue could be that with IRGC commands having such independence, they could not know where the mines are or that they did indeed lose tracking of their own mines, but I think there could be two other likely scenarios. First, suggesting that they 'lost' some mines could lay the groundwork for plausible deniability for future attacks against specifically GCC shipping. The second is that they want to outsource the cost of removing the mines to other parties, which is in effect the same as losing track of the mines.

If you find them, why not detonate them in place.

I’d also submit that the actual number of mines in the strait are probably minuscule.

Or maybe there are no mines. But fear of mines is slowing down the US navy and shipping companies from moving through the strait.

Maybe it’s simply a psyop.

Not sure why people are shitting on rmnldr - he clearly said “don’t shoot the messenger”.

Doesn’t mean he believe the smut released from Iran or their sycophants.

I'm pro Trump but I'm not sure this person who presents themselves as a pre-teen, informing us about the war effort, lends the exercise much credibility...

The whole point of a drone is to put it into perilous situations to gather information.

You don’t expect them all to come back, that’s why you send a drone and not a pilot to do that work.
