NEW details on US military strikes targeting Iran:
The US military used some new capabilities in these strikes: for the first time they used “one way attack drones” in combat.
The US military has been focusing on “high value targets”: IRGC significant facilities and capabilities. Naval facilities, and “underground facilities” likely associated with the nuclear program.
Tomahawk missiles were used in the first volley of strikes.
“We have effectively suppressed their air defenses,” one US official told me.
This was a multi geographic command and control designed to overwhelm Iran’s defenses.
There were hundreds of targets in what is being described to me as a multi day operation.
The Iranian response has been “ineffective,” according to one senior US official.
