NYT: Why the Heck Isn’t She Running Away With This?

Two big things baffle me about this election. The first is: Why are the polls so immobile? In mid-June the race between President Biden and Donald Trump was neck and neck. Since then, we’ve had a blizzard of big events, and still the race is basically where it was in June. It started out tied and has only gotten closer.
We supposedly live in a country in which a plurality of voters are independents. You’d think they’d behave, well, independently and get swayed by events. But no. In our era the polling numbers barely move.
The second thing that baffles me is: Why has politics been 50-50 for over a decade? We’ve had big shifts in the electorate, college-educated voters going left and non-college-educated voters going right. But still, the two parties are almost exactly evenly matched.
This is not historically normal. Usually we have one majority party that has a big vision for the country, and then we have a minority party that tries to poke holes in that vision. (In the 1930s the Democrats dominated with the New Deal, and the Republicans complained. In the 1980s the Reagan revolution dominated, and the Democrats tried to adjust.)

I guess we know who wins the Pauline Kael award this cycle.

Because Americans are done with this administration and she is also the worst Presidential candidate in history

David Brooks needs to get out more.

Well Mr. David Brooks….because she’s a disaster of an installed candidate who stands for nothing representing a political party who offers nothing except continued disaster and “not Trump.”
I’d suggest that as your starting point and maybe you’ll somehow get it figured out.

If you have to ask this you are out of touch with middle class America. You have to be totally unaware of inflation, illegal immigration, crime and the woke values of the current administration. The average American sees money shoveled out to foreign countries, illegal aliens and crony companies. You see people affected by disasters given low priority. Why in the hell would you vote for that when the previous administration put Americans first.

David Brooks is nothing but a useful idiot for the left because he once called himself a RINO.
Posted on 10/18/24 at 12:25 pm to Seldom Seen
Because she’s an ignorant, arrogant whore/prostitute, who literally sucked and fricked her way into politics and up the Democrat chain, and who can’t put two fricking sentences together without sounding like a complete fricking idiot.
Does that about cover it?
Does that about cover it?

Why is Hilary not 50 points ahead?

Without media bias trump would run away with this thing.
I was listening to some pod with a rt wing woman and some Fox News contributor woman.
They both stated how much Kamala and the Democrats suck but both said they could never vote trump.
So there you have it.

Like us, he must be in an echo chamber too

Now imagine if we had a fair and honest media. The Democrats would need decades of rehabilitation to become contenders in national elections.
They have the media, Hollywood, and government agencies and still can't run away with this thing.

From many of the polls I've seen, it looks like the polls certainly are starting to move--to the Right.

Democratic urbanites, in their fishbowls, are completely out of tune with conservative and moderate Americans.

Brooks is an excellent writer about societal trends. He knows nothing about politics. So, the NYT staff has spent years teaching him about politics. This is what you get.

Ol David Brooks may have converted to “Christianity”, but he can’t shake his Jewish roots

Maybe there is a basic cognitive reasoning problem with the author.
