The NYT reported this plot a couple of months ago and this provides additional credence to the idea that Israel was planning for Ahmadinejad to lead Iran after regime collapse

Eventually-the Revolution comes for the revolutionaries.
It's an historical constant.

If this is true, then Israel has been playing the long game and knew they would be able to get the US to take down IRGC. Now that it hasn't happened, they are probably cutting bait. I guess Israel thought the IRGC would fold a lot easier and faster.

I imagine this is what led to Trump's shift

That seems to be what they sold the war with and were a bit optimistic about the plan

We killed the leader in 2026. He was the leader a while back, creating the sort of want meme

There was a targeted strike on where he lived.

The assumption was it was to kill him. Since half the leadership was killed day one the idea he was killed too wasn't far fetched.

Later on, a story broke that it was to free him, as he was under house arrest, and the strike took out the guardhouse.

Whether this story is true, was an actual plan, a fake "actual" plan or was created from thin air to drive a wedge and distrust in the Iranians is probably hard to tell.

Yeah I'm not sure if I'm going to take the IRGCs word on it lol. The NYT is obviously getting sources from them also.

In any case I assume it's karma dude has a lot of blood on his hands

Very believable. Ahmadinejad was at odds with the extremist in charge many years ago. He had to knuckle under back then. But he was the best of them.

Trump's plan is working beautifully and this is evidence of it. The IRGC is turning against itself. There is no indication dinner jacket actually provided the Israelis any real intelligence, but the IRGC paranoia is in full swing.

I'm almost certain it was initially reported that he was killed in the initial strikes.

It was originally reported that he was killed in an airstrike on March 1st. I'm looking at old Twitter posts now.
