Can it be any more bloody obvious that they were never going to stop with statues? They want a complete purge of the culture, with only woke-approved songs, books, movies, etc.

quote:

The past several years have seen a reassessment of our country’s many mythologies — from the legends of the generals of the Confederacy to the historical glossing over of slaveholding founding fathers. But as we take another look at the sins of our historical figures, we’ve also had to take a hard look at our more immediate past and present, including the behavior of the creators of pop culture. That reassessment extends now to the people who wrote some of our best-loved songs. But what to do with the art left behind? Can I still love their music if I’m appalled by various events in the lives of Johnny Cash or Elvis or Jerry Lee Lewis? Or by Eric Clapton’s racist rants and anti-vaccination activism?

This is pretty typical of the replies from NYT's readers:

quote:

On a personal level it's become impossible for me to enjoy R. Kelly, Led Zeppelin, and David Bowie after reading about the crimes (statutory rapes/kidnappings) they were committing while writing and performing songs I previously enjoyed. I don't expect everyone to feel the same way. Racism and violence against women and children just ruin artists and their art for me.

It was just 7 years ago that Barack Obama was giving Led Zeppelin a standing ovation at the Kennedy Center honors. Now it's not long before his followers try to purge them from radios and record stores.

NY Times: Should Classic Rock songs be toppled like Confederate statues?

Saw this coming when they went after the low hanging fruit in pop punk.

They’re going to purge everything except state sponsored propaganda, and because no one owns physical media anymore, it will be gone forever. That’s why I never joined the streaming revolution and stuck with physical cds and mp3s.

Unfortunately, a couple months ago, itunes made it where you cannot add downloaded tracks to iTunes without going through several extra steps to convert the files and beat the algorithm, but I bet most folks will be quickly discouraged and won’t figure it out.

Anyone else have flashbacks to the 80s when the (mythical) evangelicals wanted to ban naughty words in music?

Democrats used to be against such things...

Now they are the tyrants... only they are real this time.

Now do
quote:

On a personal level it's become impossible for me to enjoy R. I don't expect everyone to feel the same way. Racism and violence against women and children just ruin artists and their art for me.

Now do rappers and rap music. Hell here’s the first one off the top of my head: Cardi B admitted to drugging and robbing men at gunpoint after seducing them with promises of sexual intercourse.

Recall that the Senate hearings on rock lyrics were lead by... drumroll... Al Gore, at the behest of his then-wife Tipper, who went on to head the Parents Music Resource Center.

Well my movie and television collection is complete, maybe I’ll start a music collection.

But seriously try this Left. We’ll take the actual hippies. They’re chill, fun, and are actually tolerant unlike what you claim to be. Want them to join us, ban classic rock.

This is a hill I will die on. I don’t even listen to modern music and I was born in 91.

All I listen to is 60s-80s rock and 80s-90s country

We should put these liberal idiots in a concentration camp that blares David Allan Coe 24/7
