According to Brandon and his admin policies, one can assume it’s $125K/yr if you’re single, $250K/yr for married couples. fricking insanity.

Started a new job this week with a 22% increase in base salary. Also was given a car allowance.

Serious question. What do you think is an appropriate hourly wage for a freight engineer?

No idea, I guess whatever the Union can negotiate. I worked for a rail road for approximately 10 years as a maintenance of way worker, my last position when I quit in 1988 to go back to school was section foreman and I was making around $13-14/hour.

My pay has gone up 30% since the end of 2019. 10% is from annual raises and the other 20% is from a position change.

But you said earlier that someone needs $25 per hour in this country to survive but you are only paying some of these people $15 per hour...

No doubt, but you cannot have it both ways.... You are not paying a living wage (per your description) AND you are employing folks that ARE the problem...

You young folks sure like to run in circles trying to make sense of things...

About ten years ago the hourly rate on CN for engineers was $50/hour iirc.

Operating dept employees on most Class 1's are not paid hourly but have a mileage rate or basic day so it's not easy to compare to other industries. Have to look at yearly earnings.

I received a little over 13% increase this year. I'm amazed they gave me anything after I was the only employee to request an exemption to mandatory vaccinations.

The guys under me went from $14 an hour starting pay, up to $20 minimum.

Average rent in the Lafayette area is $1,000 a month. That won't get you anything nice either, a basic one bedroom. Factor in everything else including skyrocketing energy cost, kids, insurance, and no $18 an hour is no longer a living wage. Unless of course your idea of a living wage is living under a bridge in a cardboard box.

If you can’t afford it you shouldn’t be doing it. The prices go up because people are just pumping fake money into it.

Your attempt at gotcha post is asinine. Construction wages are low because people like me can't compete with cruise of mexicans. And now the Mexicans that have been here the longest are starting to become legal and getting licenses and hiring all illegal labor. It's a lose-lose for whitey in the construction world in South louisiana.End of story. That's my entire point. Right behind inflation, illegal immigration into this country is the number one issue. It's not just lowering wages either, it's the constant flow of fentanyl killing all our citizens. Go play that got you shite somewhere else, I actually have boots on the ground every day and I'm telling you what's going on not asking your opinion.

I’m a teacher, so I’m not asking for money. I want to add April and May to my summer break. #deserveit

They act like Joe Biden is the great negotiator and he averted a strike. Heck, they got everything they wanted!

It isn’t a gotcha sport…. You whine about a living wage then don’t pay it…. Whine about Hispanics having a leg up but you are doing the same thing they are…

Give you a hint…. Life is hard…. Bitching about it gets you nowhere…
