When I lived in L.A. we went through a serious drougt throughout the state. There were regs places on water usage out of necessity.

Speaking of grown ups. I realize that you hard lefties may be unaware but it just so happens that there is a mechanism in existence that prevents over use of finite resources. It's right on the tip of my tongue

Large families like mine would basically be outlawed in a scheme like this.

The only people who could afford to have large families would be the poor/immigrants and of course the types of elites who no doubt own Jerry Brown.

What a shame such a beautiful state has fallen victim to an extreme brand of politics.

to be fair, southern California should never have gotten as populated as it is, b/c it's a fricking desert

water issues will always plague that area and it doesn't have anything to do with the government at hand

If I am a resident I would start a campaign for everyone to not only run their washer and take a shower at the same time, but set the time for everyone to do it.

I like the trolling intent of the idea but that might be a pretty bad idea in practice

Yep. It's ridiculous that you have tens of millions living in the desert when water isn't plentiful.

and, like was posted earlier, they use a metric frick ton of water for their agriculture

if California had to pay market price for water, 2 major things would happen:

1. they would lose what? half their population?

2. their "world's 5th largest" economy would shrivel up

*ETA: i don't mean this as a "i hate California" post. it's more like a "if oil became worthless, LA would die" post

Yep, I'm positive the State would have a marked decrease in population and industry.

Will be interesting to see what happens with another prolonged drought.

Hey dumbass, maybe they could try reasonable measures like not maintaining lawns in the desert.

well water is going to be the resource wars are fought over in the future, so it may not even require a drought

Exactly. It isn't about hating California. In this case it's just another great example of how governments pervert natural human incentives. Absent the government artificially making living in certain areas economical you wouldn't have tens of millions of people moving to them.

But even worse than all of that is the fact that wants to people do move there it creates a chain reaction. Those people demand that their ability to live there be maintained.

This is but another example of what happens when Market forces are intentionally subverted

True but let's be honest here. The agriculture would have plenty of water on its own if tens of millions of people hadn't been incentivized to move in also.

They will encourage children to rat out their parents. They will dive into private spats to get one to accuse the other.

You'd think California would get their issues with water figured out before providing sanctuary to millions of illegal immigrants.

Shockingly OP article left all of that out but hey it got clicks.

You're shockingly retarded if you don't think CA municipalities will not pass on the fines to individuals one way or another.
