the attacks on Work From Home are ridiculous. i work a hybrid schedule myself since 2022 but I feel much better on the days I stay home and get to spend more time with my kids.
Don't we want to benefit the working class?

What are they going to do? Come into the office? Yea right they do that and they will go find other work. They don’t come in fired.
Plenty will quit over the threat of wfh. You see it every day in the real world.

The private side can do whatever it wants with work from home.
I think hybrid works best for a number of reasons. The biggest being you get more ideas in person than behind a screen on a call and the younger generation has to be taught the skills to succeed.
The Gov though should be 5 days a week in office

I started WFH ~70-80% in 2005 except for a brief full blown office gig 2007-08 that devolved back to 80% home.
Then 100% (apart from rare meetings/court appearances) home since 2014. I think I’d work the fields before I went back to an office.

It is not the net savings you guys think it is. And Trump and Elon know this.
Lemme splain it to ya. Trump and Elon want companies to be free to have any work set up they want with their employees. But they are gonna make federal workers come to the office. If the workers are inefficient in the office then they will be fired. The more that are fired, the more money the govt saves. Their work is useless shite.
Do you understand now?

I guess it depends. If I could only find an office job, I wouldn't mind. But I just prefer not to. Our office is only 15 minutes from my house, so it's no big deal but at my current job, we will never get the order to come in, no matter what the President says.

I hear you brother. I just don't think it will happen. In fact, I know it won't happen like everyone here thinks.

Exactly, if WFH is so beneficial to productivity, the whole reason one is paid to perform a job, then those companies that still allow it will clearly separate themselves from the market,
or they wont.
For the public sector, we have waaay too many people. We need to make DEEP cuts so these people can move into private sector and be more productive humans for the USA. People that want to quit simply because they cant WFH, seems like a no brainer place to start.
They'll be able to find their WFH jobs in the private sector,
or they wont.
This is how it's supposed to work, capitalism.

Actually, my vacation starts tomorrow. I don't have to be back at my home office desk until Jan 13 2025.
I look forward to the day I have enough PTO to get a full week off.

You don’t think they will make people go in?
I’m not sure what the disconnect here is: they want less federal employees, you put in office work and some self select out immediately, some go in a bit and then leave, some sky scream and stomp their feet and are fired. Then you have some come in and they suck so fired, that leaves whatever population and if it’s too many, you give them a package and send them on their way.

And it's not going to change unless I decide that's what I want which for right now, I don't. I've only got 10 more years to retirement. To be fair, I'm a contractor but there's no way they'll be able to successfully force everyone to come into an office without dishing out more money. And hardly anyone will quit just over being forced to come in. If it came down to it, I would force them to fire me and collect a lot of severance pay plus unemployment. No biggie.
I’m with you. Coming into work for me means going to an office where zero people there are my coworkers and colleagues. It’s the same as working from home but only in an office I have to waste time getting there in a 45 minute daily commute.

Also, if you 'force' a company to fire you, good luck claiming unemployment.

WFH government employee =/= WFH private sector
Government employees have almost zero accountability beyond being present.
Private sector must deliver value add to the company or be fired. If you are delivering outstanding work product on a timely basis and continuing to grow in your development I don't care if it takes you 2 hours or 100 hours or if you do it from an office or the back of a van on a beach. If you are generating profit for the company, you are safe

I agree with most of your post, however if I have 2 employees, who do outstanding work, and one WFH and the other comes into the office, assuming this is a business with an office. The one in the office is more valuable to me, so if I had to choose to fire one, it's a clear decision. They are available for spontaneous phone calls, tasks, brainstorms; at predictable times with less distractions that are outside my control. They are easier to govern. It's a no brainer assuming all else equal.
The Onus is on a private business to get the productivity and profitability they want out of an employee and they can do it however they want. The free market will self correct WFH if it isn't effective. There are OBVIOUS holes in governing productivity in a public sector where there isn't the same incentive to be efficient or profitable. WFH is a huge liability in that environment, and it should be eliminated immediately.

You work for the government? If so, you’re gon’ get that arse in that office.
If you don’t work for the government, nobody gives a frick.

And this would be where you come to me or anyone else for a job and i offer you less. You don't need as much money if you spend 3,000 straight days in your home.
So you most likely won't quit, but your employer can fire your arse and have no consequences because of at will. So good luck.
