A former Department of Justice worker on trial for throwing a sandwich at a federal officer in Washington, D.C., earlier this year was found not guilty on Thursday.

Sean Dunn struck a U.S. Customs and Border Protection agent (CBP) in the chest with a sandwich in August. He was facing charges of assaulting, resisting, opposing, impeding, intimidating and interfering with a federal officer.

Jurors deliberated for about seven hours before reaching a verdict. After it was read, Dunn hugged his lawyers in the courtroom.

"I believe that I was protecting the rights of immigrants. And let us not forget that the Great Seal of the United States says, E Pluribus Unum," Dunn said after the verdict was read. "That means, from many, one, every life matters, no matter where you came from, no matter how you got here, no matter how you identify, you have the right to live a life that is free."

"It was a harmless gesture at the end of him exercising his right to speak out," defense attorney Julia Gatto said during the trial. "He is overwhelmingly not guilty."

I am curious where this jury draws the line? Sandwich, drink, drink in a bottle, stich, rock, brick. At what point does what you are throwing become unacceptable? Or is it that it's OK to thrown things at ICE but not other people?

What if I threw a sandwich at an immigrant? Is that OK?

I would like to have seen the jury instruction. Surely it says something along the lines of "an unwanted touching with an object."

Almost certainly jury nullification by Democrat jurors.

This is insane. What if someone throws a sandwich at me while I’m riding my bike and I get mayo in my eyes and wreck and break an arm. That’s assault.

A jury full of DC liberals isn’t going to place an iota of blame on someone who goes after someone working at the Customs and Border control.

Will absolute miracles never cease?

I bet if Tom Homan waited outside and threw sandwiches at the jurors leaving the courthouse, that would be assault.

as stated earlier it should have argued as biological threat to officer as contents could be portrayed as harmless till chemical interaction is initiated ?

That CBP Agent sounds like a total snowflake. The fact that someone was charged for getting mayo on someone is judicial embarrassment

A white man in Mississippi in 1950 had a better chance of being convicted by a jury for killing a black person than a Democrat does today in DC for any crime against a Republican.

Throw a spear instead. Surely your right to prevent an invasion and protect our sovereignty is only a political statement

Fall off and break your neck and it becomes manslaughter.

This leads to the need for a list of what is and isn’t OK to throw at law enforcement.
