Not to mention the entire Pacific rim will turn away from China and Europe following which leaves the sole trading partner for China is Iran.

Their economy is poised for massive failure

I'm not really an economics guy at all, but I always thought it interesting that George Bush put them on the hook for all our losses during the '08 housing collapse. They bought massive amounts of our debt. And now we have turned coat on them and are cutting them off.

They were completely screwed the day Trump took office, imo.

it ever came to a true WW3 situation, I think the sides would likely be:

Agreed. This is posturing and there is little chance they will actually move against Taiwan, imo. They just aren't ready for what all that would entail.

If the CCP is in fact moving troops and armor to the coast, it’s to take Taiwan. Period.

The only variable is when. The Chinese like to play the long game and “re-establish” new norms. That’s exactly how they approach achieving their goals. They do it in the SCS.

For Taiwan, We will just get used to a heavily armed coast for a year or 3 and forget about it.

then we will wake up one morning to hear the Chinese have landed in Taiwan.

They are playing the long game.

Our subs will blow them out of the water before they even get close

Sorry but this is highly unrealistic. First, our sub fleet is too dispersed throughout the world and we cannot simply send anything more than maybe a dozen attack and a handful of strategic subs to the straight of Taiwan.

Secondly, the straight of Taiwan is too shallow and our subs would be within range and highly vulnerable to Chinese anti-sub warfare planes and naval assets from the mainland.

Thirdly, even if we could send enough submarines to halt an amphibious invasion force, are we really willing to jeopardize a large portion of our naval capabilities to save Taiwan?

The more realistic option is to maintain a naval presence West of Taiwan just barely in range of the Island to provide anti-air and anti-ballistic capabilities.

Do you realize that our own forces hob hell trying to detect our submarines? Much less whatever the ChiComs may have. If there's a carrier battle group in the theater then there are submarines in theater, carriers don't travel without them.

This is beyond fantasy

Somewhat. But the reality is that if Taiwan is committed to fighting it would be a costly endeavor for the Chinese. It would also result in destruction of the very prize they hope to seize. And the world would economically isolate them when they ar already in trouble. They ain’t invading Taiwan any time soon.

China is unlikely to conduct an invasion anytime soon. All military analyst conclude that they lack the necessary quantity of amphibious and logistic assets to ensure a successful invasion and occupation of taiwan. They will likely be prepared in 3-10 years though.

Why start a war when you can just steal everyone's technology and lease half the worlds ports?

They have 32 Naval vessels in the Taiwan Navy
Including some subs, frigates and destroyers

But they are heavily invested in fast mine layers and Apache Helos

They would deploy the mine layers and the helos to protect them
Mining the strait would be a huge problem for the Chinese

Sure, we have very quiet subs that can escape detection in the right context. The issue is that the East China Sea and Taiwan strait is very shallow with a homogenous flat seafloor that makes it very difficult to conduct offensive maneuvers without detection.

I never stated that there aren’t subs in the region. Of course there is. The problem is it would take dozens of subs to cover all avenues of approach from mainland china to Taiwan. I can guarantee you the number of subs that could respond to an amphibious attack force in time is far less than what is needed. Never mind our naval brass even wanting to risk that many assets to begin with.

Too many people on this forum seem to think our military is some kind of invincible force that cannot fail regardless of circumstances.

I wanted to highlight one of your points.

The USN operates globally, and is dispersed all over the world. The Chinese naval forces are concentrated almost exclusively in their home waters.

Trump is not going to give orders that results in massive numbers of body bags with our finest in them. He knows that Americans are sick of that crap. Now some stupidity from Xi like letting that virus loose might snowball, but you can damn well bet that behind the scenes, Trump has told Xi that if they pull that crap again, it’s gloves off

Taiwan is the cultural heritage center of China, after 70 years of commie dictatorship on the mainland not much is left.

The commies will bluster and stomp about but will never destroy what they covet most.
