As a conservative, I am glad McCarthy is gone. Time for a change.

I keep seeing in these threads how horribly outclassed and angry the RINOs are. I actually believe that's probably true. That doesn't seem like unity to me. Plus it took almost a month to elect a Speaker. And Kevin McCarthy eventually got 219 votes I believe.

You’re confusing unity of thought with unity of vote. Democrats do not have unity of thought either. But they tow the party line 100% and have unity of vote.

Taking a long time to elect a speaker isn’t a new thing, or a bad thing. Some would argue it’s what the founding fathers intended. We had a 133 vote record set in the 1850’s.

Finally, Democrats don’t have to deal with DINO’s. Unfortunately; it was time to deal with their Republican counterparts. Enough votes coalesced around Johnson that the RINO contingent saw it was a loosing battle. So, for whatever reason, belief or fear. The end result was unity of vote. Good enough for me.

Because I don't think the entire Republican caucus is 100% behind Mike Johnson? Because I think that Democrats could exploit some bad blood?

They never thought they would get Jeffries as Speaker. No Democrat ever suggested this. I’m positive they are happy for the three week dumpster fire the GOP lit.

For Speaker of the House.

I'm responding to the idea that Mike Johnson is the leader that will finally take Republicans to the light. That all members of the House will coalesce around him and finally fight Democrats.

There's no way that's happening. Republicans will peel off immediately to work with Democrats to send billions to Ukraine. To pass another bull shite CR. To fund Planned Parenthood. To ignore the border etc...

In other words, nothing has really changed. Only now Mike Johnson will be the face of this and I guess MAGA will own his compromises or turn on him.

This isn't a win, it's an end to some drama. The beginning of new drama.

Here’s what changes. Single issue appropriations bills. That’s fine if folks want to vote with their heads. Makes it easier to primary as well.

Why would you think a conservative DeSantis supporter would be upset by this speaker? I never wanted McCarthy to begin with.

Y'all are freaking weird.

I don’t know and will give Johnson some latitude, especially based upon his introduction.

Given McCarthy’s evolution from the do nothing Ryan/Cantor tree, his ultimate failure was not hard to forecast. He clearly had to go as he was never going to do anything of substance - by design.

The “enemy” is the other side and not internal. People like Jeffries, after admitting he hardly knows Johnson, already came out and called Johnson a “right wing MAGA extremist.” He is a leftist/progressive - that’s the opposition.

Talking about a worthless waste of a human being, Jeffries that is. That’s the extent of his playbook……muh “right wing MAGA extremists.” Limited vocabulary bank is what I’d guess.

No they didn’t. I imagine what they wanted was Jim Jordan, but anyone more right wing than MaCarthy was a win for them. They want to shove Republicans to the right where they think they can beat them. It worked quite well in the last mid-terms as the Dems spent a lot of money funding MAGA candidates over more centrists. When the Magas won the nomination the Democrats were able to easily rout them in the general.

I think the only bad blood there is is between Kevin McCarthy and the party he tried to screw to regain the Speakership!! I think once that was exposed the rest of the party could see the writing on the wall!! I think once Gaetz told Emmer what McCarthy did to Scalise and Jordan, Emmer wanted to see for himself. And after that, it was “Katy bar the door”!! Watch the Gaetz interview with Bannon. Very eye opening!!

Bloodbath is probably not accurate.

There is some bad blood for sure. Hopefully they can put that aside and not let the commies have their way.

I’m hopeful.
