The phrase to study is “ideological subversion”.

They are indoctrinated and there aren’t enough facts or consequences you can show them or threaten them with to undo it when they hit a certain point much like someone in a cult.

They’ve intermeshed their sense of self and purpose with their political cause, view us as “others” who are evil and as such don’t just rationalize the acceptance of violence against us but openly advocate for it.

They’re gone and all we can do is lock them up and be honest with ourselves about who they are, what they want and what they’re willing to do to get it.
