Think Tyler Durden or Van Wilder. Fictional characters, but I don't know everyone in your life to make a more meaningful example.

These were the men who became leaders in dire circumstances.
They were the men who we demanded protect us from the bears, the lions, the Huns, and the Nazis. They are the men who stepped up and led.
Alpha's are noted for high levels of aggression and risky behavior. It is a pattern evolved to stimulate risking it all to protect family/tribe/whatever. They were generally the most likely to breed and produce young. Even male-hating feminists polled say they are far more sexually attracted to aggressive "a-hole" Alpha's, than to non-Alpha's. Though they do prefer marrying more agreeable men and having those men raise their children.
Deciding they don't exist doesn't make it so. . .you might as well say there's no such thing as noses, for all the sense it would make.
