Regardless, customers turned off and changing brands with their next purchase were never going to show up before Christmas at the earliest.

Same would go for the people who will now have more Nike products under their tree.
Do you think there's a big difference in those numbers?

Was Amazon as mature a company in as mature an industry in 2001 as Nike is currently?

No......but Apple was/is. Are you agreeing that just because a stock is at a 52-week high that it's automatically stupid investment?

No, I'm just saying you used a poor example.

But it's less good than buying in when everyone else was selling.
Wel he said 3 weeks, and the Kap ad came out less than 2 weeks ago.

If you like the stock long term and are intending to buy it, buying at the dip was definitely better than buying today.
Sure. But for a stock that has grown 22% annually over the last five years with over 1% dividend yield on top of that, a missing the bottom of a little dip isn’t a big deal if one expects the returns to remain high, especially since it’s still somewhat undervalued compared to the trend line (plus no dividend recording dates occurred in the timeframe).

Must’ve been that mayor rescinding his policy. Only reasonable explanation.

And it will probably be a complete afterthought for most, and matter even less when it comes to buying (especially for someone else) in an elastic market with some brand inelasticity that Nike benefits from, especially since some of Nike’s signature brand don’t even have the logo or name (Jordan, Coverse and Chuck Taylors, etc.).

It's good to know that past performance is definitely the best indicator of future performance.

Put another way, one who would understand the vast difference between Nike 2018 and Amazon 2001.

OK - So tell me what the difference between Nike 2018 and Amazon 2014 when you could buy shares for under $400 and their market cap was higher than Nike 2018.

Other than company fundamentals and the market fundamentals, both of which favor Nike (high levels spending, increased discretionary spending, Under Armour struggling), past performance is about as strong of an indicator as there is for the public.

A bunch idiots burned all of their Nike shite. A week went by and they realized they needed shoes, clothes, hats, etc. They then loaded up in the F150 and went to academy. Forgetting why they burnt all of their Nike shite in the first place, they purchased new shite from Nike. Nike wins twice because of these idiots.

Do you? Amazon was $5.97 a share in September 2001 and 52 weeks later it was $15.93. What kind of idiot would have bought Amazon at it's 52-week high of $15.93?

That’s a real apples to apples comparison to present day Nike, lol!

Probably. But then again "a complete afterthought" would equate to a very unsuccessful marketing play.

Well how marketing many ads are intended to make the consumer remember the specifics, rather than the product or brand, especially beyond some target demo?

Liberals must not know Nike is on the DOW so when Nike goes up it makes Trump the business President look good.

You mean aside from the fact Nike is a 50yr old retail-based shoe/sports-apparel company with multiple peer-level competitors, only a 38% share of the branded footware market, and heavy dependence on tenuous contracts for marketing?

You mean aside from the fact Amazon is near peerless in the sole-online merchandising category, has a huge growth-rate, continues to pressure brick-and-mortar business marketshare, is now competing in fields of grocery, video, etc., and whose owner could buy Nike 4-times over?

Aside from those details, maybe not much difference.
